Jordan finally got out onto the ice and it always felt natural. Her skates digging into the freshly zambonied ice.
She glided to the goal crease, tapped the posts, and got ready to play her sport.
Tyler Seguin came over and asked if he could take some shots on her. She agreed and he went to go fetch some pucks.
She saved shot by shot and only let in 2 pucks.
The goalie coach skated up to Jordan.
"Wow, you're good. Bish might have to be your backup." He said.
"I think you're better than me." A voice said, she jumped.
She turned around and there was the one and only Ben Bishop. She just froze up. Ben Bishop just said that she might be better than him! Jordan just died inside.
"Ya good?" He asked.
"Yup, sorry again. It's just that it's hard to believe that I got into the NHL." Jordan replied.
At that point, Coach Montgomery blew his whistle and everyone on the ice skated over to form a huddle.
"Good morning everyone. I would like to welcome our two rookies for the season, Dougie Hamilton and Jordan Beckett." Coach said.
Jordan raised her helmet and timidly waved her hand and blushed. Dougie bumped her side and smiled.
"Ok, let's start practice!" Coach yelled.
In the first part of the practice, the goalies got to train with the goalie coach. The goalies were doing the drill where they turn around and tried to save the shot.
Jordan and Ben were doing it when then Jordan turned around and the goalie coach nailed her with a puck right under the neck protector with a nasty slapshot.
She took off her glove and felt her chin. There was a little blood but that's all. Nick skated over to ask if she was alright. She said she was, but he insisted that she should go get a band-aid.
She made her way to the training room, got a band-aid for her chin, then headed back to the ice.
When she got back, the boys were doing a drill where they dumped the puck in the zone and then did a 3 on 2.
She traded out in the goal with Bish. The whistle blew and she went to go settle the puck at the line so the D could get it.
Jordan got back to the net and watched the puck until Heiskanen shot it and she moved her glove to catch the puck, resulting in a beautiful save.
They did a few more drills and Herbies, then ended the practice with 3 on 3 scrimmages.
She was so tired out, but she still had strength training today.
She got back to the locker room and started to get undressed when Seggy yelled; "I think Jordan needs a nickname!"
"I agree," Bish said.
"I think we should call her Goldy," Tyler said, "because she is from Minnesota and she's the golden girl." He concluded.
There was a jumble of yesses and head nodding.
She put her stuff away and started her way out when Dougie came up.
"Hey Goldy, after training, you should come bowling with me and some of the guys."
