---One Year Later---
As Mara opened her eyes, she focused on the rising sun, shining through the leaves of the tall tree above her. She tried to sit up, but she was pinned down. She groaned as she glanced around, her gaze landing on Peter.
He was holding her close to him, and he was still sound asleep. As Mara turned to look at him, he mumbled and his eyes fluttered open. Slowly, for him, he looked around, and he found her with his blurry eyes.
"Hey, babe. What're you looking at?" Peter asked as he stretched.
Mara grinned, and said, "I'm not sure. Maybe the only man I've ever loved."
Peter fell silent, unable to respond. He had told her he loved her, many times. It was always a surprise when she did the same. He liked it.
"I didn't think it was possible to render you speechless. Are you alright?" Mara asked, sarcastically.
He groaned, and sat up, bringing her with him. He looked around the open field, and tried to find the words. Slowly, he looked back to her, smiling softly. He held her confused gaze.
"Pete, a penny for your thoughts?" She asked, confused.
Grinning, he said, "I am in love with you, every part of you. And, against all the odds, you love me back. I never thought I'd find that. I'm kind of a loser. The fact that a doctor, with the coolest powers ever, wants me, it's just unbelievable."
Mara pulled away from him, so she could kneel before him, to say, "Peter, you sell yourself short. Sure, maybe you stayed living at your mother's home longer than some, but guess what? That doesn't define you now. The man I see before me? He is an incredible mutant being. He is a hero. God, you have saved me more times than I can count. So, loving you has never been hard for me. And I do. I love you. I'm absolutely in love with you."
Peter slowly began to grin at her. In a split second, he had her back in his arms, kissing her fiercely. He didn't hold back in the least.
Suddenly, someone called from across the field, "Get a room, you two!"
Peter and Mara released each other, to glare at Scott and Jean, who were wandering the grounds hand in hand. They glanced at each, before Mara grinned, and lifted her hand. Suddenly, tall shrubs boxed in Scott and Jean.
Peter burst into laughter, and pulled Mara from the ground. He brought her in close, and sped away. After he carried her quickly to their room, he tossed her onto their bed. As he came to a stop, he grinned down at her.
She watched him with light in her eyes, and sat back, her long curls flowing around her. Slowly, she slipped her shirt over her head, and tossing it to the ground. She smirked seductively, waiting for him to follow her lead.
Peter chuckled, and quickly yanked off his clothes, and the rest of her outerwear, and stood before her in his briefs. He placed his hands on his hips, posing for her to observe his bare muscles. He wasn't a giant, but he looked quite fit.
Mara chuckled, and pulled him down on top of her, catching his lips in hers as he fell over her. She twisted his strange, silver locks in her fingers. Slowly, she released him, and watched him closely. She couldn't be sure, but she thought he was still afraid of her, intimately. It was no surprise to her that she was his first.
Suddenly, he said, "You don't need to worry about me, Baby, I've gotten up to speed. I mean, you're still the boss here, but I get you."
Mara chuckled, and pulled him back in for more.
Gently, they moved ahead and removed their clothes. They came together, legs intertwined. With their hunger building, they held to one another, their bodies becoming one. They never broke a passionate kiss, never coming up for air.

FanfictionThe speedster still has much to learn about life... and love in this story that follows a chaotic fight for mutant and humankind. The story is post X-Men: Apocalypse. I have ignored Dark Phoenix, not because I dislike it, it just didn't fit my story...
