Darkess Is Among Us

I've never been a big fan of camping, I hate all the bugs and the pesky mosquitoes, I hate getting sun burnt, and I hate being outdoors. I don't know why, but I've just never been the outdoor type. I like to sit in a cool room and read a good book that takes me away from reality. So when my best friend Maria asked me to go on a camping trip, naturally, I said no. But she was so persistent, that I had to agree.
"Come on Luna! Stop sitting in your room writing in that stupid journal! It's almost time to go. You have to pack!" Maria shouted from my door.
"Give me a break, I've just sat down, and everything is already packed! Just calm down, you are way to excited about this." I snapped back.
"Luna seriously, you are still in your pajamas, we have to leave in 15 minutes, we don't have time for you to stall!" She insisted.
"Okay, okay, get out so I can change." I said.
When she finally left the room, I got changed into a red tank top and a pair of white shorts, something that would keep me cool in the awful 98 degree weather. I walked out of my room and down the stairs so be greeted by Maria's overexcited smile.
"Are you finally ready to go? We need to catch the bus before we miss it." She said.
"Yeah, I'm ready, let's get this over with." I mumbled.
We walked to the bus stop while Maria talked non stop about all the fun we were going to have. We finally made it to the bus stop and got on, the ride was silent, but I could feel Maria's excitement as she grinned next to me.
"Yes! We're here! Come on let's go pay and get our cabin!" Maria said.
We got off the bus and went to a small building with a sign that said "Pay here and get your key". There was an old man sitting behind a window next to the sign, so we went over and paid.
"Here is your key young ladies, you will be in Cabin 12. Oh look at that! It's your lucky day! That's the cabin next to the water. Enjoy!" He said with a massive grin.
I mumbled a thank you and then started to walk to the cabin. When finally reaching it, I unlocked the door and walked in. The place smelled like sewage water, but on the bright side, it was beautiful! There was a small chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a staircase that led to the top of the cabin. On the bottom floor, there was a mini fridge, a stove, a microwave, and a big table. On the top floor, there was 2 large beds and pool table. It wouldn't be so bad to stay here for the week, if we could get rid of that horrid smell.
Another plus side to this camp ground, is that it is never crowded. Maria and I, along with 4 other cabins, were the only ones here, so it was nicely quiet.
"Hey Luna, what's that awful smell?" Maria yelled from down the stairs.
"Honestly I have no clue but we need some candles!" I said.
"I fully agree! I'll run to the dollar store, I should be back in about 45 minutes." She said.
"Okay, just try to hurry because I'm only here for you, and don't want to be alone and bored." I replied.
"Got it! I'll be back in a jiffy!" She said with a smile.
I sat in one of the beds upstairs as I waited on her to get back, it was already 9 o'clock so when she returns, I am just going to get a shower and go to sleep. She has all day tomorrow to harass me about the "fun of camping".
I watched the clock tick by as I waited until it was 10 o'clock. It's 15 minutes past the time she should be here! Maybe she got held up with something, I should call her.
I picked up my phone and dialed her number, the phone rang and rang, but just went to her voicemail.
"Weird, she always picks up." I said.
Maybe she is outside now and needs help bringing things in. I walked outside to find her car, but she wasn't in it.
"Maria! Where are you!" I shouted.
No answer.
"Maria! Please, this isn't funny, I want to go to bed!" I yelled again.
Still there was no response. What if something happened to her? What if she is hurt? I'm at a loss as to what to do. I started walking around the dark campground in search of her, with only my phone as light. I shouted her name a few more times, only to be greeted by silence.
"Where are you Maria?" I mumbled as I fell over something on the ground.
I immediately jumped up and pointed my phones flashlight at what had tripped me, and what I saw, completely destroyed me.
Maria's lifeless body was on the ground before me with two large holes in the side of her neck. I yelled out for help, but as before, was only greeted with silence. I got up and started running around desperate to find someone, anyone, to help me! I ran to cabins and banged on doors, but there was no answer, no sign of human life anywhere. I fear they are all dead as well. I fell to my knees and began to cry and scream for help, but all I heard back was my echo.
This had to be a dream, this can't be real. I'm going to wake up in the cabin to nice smelling candles that Maria bought and gossip about boys. I need this to be a dream! I need to wake up! I lay on the ground covered in mud and Maria's blood, desperate to make myself wake up, but there is one problem, this is no dream.
Finally I hear footsteps, someone has come to help me! Someone is going to save me! I look up to see a tall man with dark shaggy hair and a red glimmer in his eye.
"Now who would you be?" He asked in a low voice.
"I, I'm, Luna." I managed to stuttered out.
This man was not here so save me, in fact, I fear he is here to kill me. I reached around for my fallen phone to try to call for help, but I hear his deep voice again.
"Looking for this?" He said as he held up my phone.
I sat completely petrified, unable to move, as his eyes stared into mine.
"I'm not going to kill you if that's what you think. You are who I've been in search of, I just need to take a small bit of your blood to make you pass out, no biggie!" He smiled.
"My, my, blood?" I stuttered.
He said nothing more, just walked over to me, turned my head to where my neck faced him, and then buried his fangs into my neck. I let out a small scream, but his hand quickly covered my mouth. Everything then turned black.
