I awoke on a small bed in a dark room, a room that clearly wasn't mine. It smelled of must and decay. I looked around only to see bare walls and a dark shadow in the corner.
"You're awake, I'm sure you have a lot of questions for me, so let's not waste any time." The man said from the corner.
"Who are you? What do you want with me?" I said in a broken voice.
"Well, I am Caleb, leader of the vampires, and you my dear, are simply leverage against the angels." He said with a dark grin.
"Vampires? Angels? Are you insane? You can't be serious! Those are mythological creatures. You are just a sociopath killer who has too much time on his hands!" I snapped.
I know it's not smart to yell at my kidnapper, but he was also the killer of my best friend! He can't get away with this. I won't let him.
"My, my, such a temper. I know it seems unrealistic, but we are far from mythological, we just like to keep a low profile." He said. "I know you're scared, and a little doubtful, but if I weren't truly a vampire, how do you explain the bite I left in your neck?"
I lifted my hand up slowly to my neck and pressed my fingers to the sore spot, wincing from the pain, I pulled my fingers away to reveal a smear of blood on them. This was really happening, vampires really do exist. Oh God, what's going to happen to me?
"From the clear expression of terror on your face, I see you believe me now. That makes my job much easier." He said with a smirk.
"Why? Why did you kill them? Everyone at the camp, they're all dead! Their bodies you just scattered in the woods. And Maria, you killed her! What is wrong with you?" I said as tears ran down my face.
"Ah I see, human emotions are such a pain! Look, I couldn't have any witnesses, I needed it to be clear when I took you, and as for this Maria person, was she the young girl with the auburn hair?" He asked.
"Yes." I said quietly.
"I see, well she was on her way to your cabin when I got to her, and she knew what I was right away. She told me that I was a hideous beast, and I just couldn't help myself. I ripped open her throat and fed from her as she scream out for help." He said with a mischievous grin. "Although it would have been nice to know how she figured out what I was. Oh well, she is no longer a problem." He winked at me.
"You're a monster!" I shouted.
"And you are going to fix that." He replied.
He then walked over to the bed where I sat and knocked me over the head with a bottle. Once again, everything went black.
When I awoke this time, I was laying in the forest under a large oak tree. I sat up, and looked around to see Caleb leaning against a tree watching me.
"You are so beautiful when you sleep." He said gazing at me.
Not sure how to take the compliment, I replied,
"I wasn't sleeping, that was your doing."
He chuckled under his breath and walked over to me.
"Can you walk? I hit you pretty hard. Sorry about that by the way, I just can't control my temper sometimes."
I didn't respond, there was nothing I wanted to say to him, all I could feel was pure rage and terror. I attempted to stand up, but my legs collapsed under me as if they couldn't hold me up anymore.
Sighing, Caleb grabbed me by the arm and lifted me to my feet, he then picked me up and started walking.
"You know, for someone who has just been kidnapped, you seem awfully calm." He said.
Again I stayed quiet not sure how to respond.
"Do you have anything else you want to ask?" He asked.
There was only one question that came to my mind,
"Are you going to kill me?" I asked quietly.
He laughed and then replied,
"Now if I was going to do that, I would have done it at the campground. I need you alive. Like I said, you're leverage."
"Leverage for what?" I asked.
"My freedom." He replied. "You see, I never wanted to be a vampire. I was enslaved when I was 19 and turned against my own will, all I have ever wanted is to be human again, to be free. The only ones that can return me to my human form, are angels."
"What does any of this have to do with me?" I asked.
"The angels want something that was taken from them 17 years ago. You see, like all immortal creatures, there are leaders. The leaders of the angels, Komoza and Cora, had a child together 17 years ago, but the child was kidnapped by vampires and gifted to a human couple. The vampires were angry because angels were the ones that put the curse of vampirism on us. We were turned to be part of the angels army agains the demons, but the angels went wrong with the curse, and turned us into blood drinking monsters instead. The vampires were furious and searched for any means of revenge. Then one day, you were born to the angels, Luna. The vampires saw you as their way of revenge, and gave you to a human family to keep you out of the angels view. Once realizing that the angels were the only ones that could reverse the curse, vampires have been on a hunt to find you and return you to the angels for years now. You are our way out of this curse Luna. All we have to do is give you back."
