"Onee-chan, where's my birthday present?" Yona asked, looking at Hana with puppy eyes.
Today was Yona's 16th birthday, and the celebration would be starting soon. The sisters were in Hana's room. Earlier, right after Hana finished getting a bath, Yona dashed into her room while holding an orange kimono that matched Hana's hair. It was made of the finest silk, and Hana could only imagine how much it must have costed. Being used to wearing old and dark clothes while on her adventure across Kouka, Hana felt really uncomfortable in this kind of attire. It was not like she didn't appreciate Yona for picking this kimono for her, but she'd much prefer a simple and plain yukata over this. But since she only had to wear something like this on rare occasions, she sucked it up without much complaint.
"Birthday present? I thought my presence here was a present already," Hana raised her eyebrows questioningly, a smirk playing on her lips.
"Well, it's not that I don't appreciate you coming home, but I just turned 16, so... but it's fine if you didn't buy me anything—" Hana cut Yona off before she finish what she was saying.
"Silly little sister, I was just kidding," Hana tapped Yona's nose with her finger, "of course I got you something a long time ago. Close your eyes."
Yona closed her eyes and eagerly waited for Hana to tell her to open her eyes again. She felt Hana put something around her neck. She presumed the gift was a necklace.
"Alright, you can see now," Hana instructed.
The red-haired princess opened her eyes. She looked down at her chest. The pendant was a red dragon perching on a pinkish-white quartz crystal, its tail coiling around the crystal.
"Since you love the story of King Hiryuu and the four dragons, I thought it'd suit you. It's nothing compared to the pearl and diamond necklaces Father gave to you though. Do you like it?" The elder princess asked.
Yona jumped and embraced her sister tightly, "I love it so much! Thank you, Onee-chan!"
Hana kissed Yona's forehead, smiling, "happy birthday, Yona."
Pulling away, Yona looked down at the necklace and studied it closely. "I love this so much. You're the best sister I could ever ask," Yona kissed Hana's cheek.
"You're the sweetest and the cutest. I have one too," Hana pulled out the pendant that she had been hiding under the kimono. It was like Yona's, except the dragon was green, as a symbol of the Green Dragon. It was her favorite dragon out of the four Dragon Warriors. Legend had it that when the Green Dragon Warrior jumped, it looked as if he was flying across the sky. Hana thought his power was the most unique out of the four Dragons. But that was only her opinion; each Dragon Warrior's ability was special in his own way.
"The Green Dragon! Your favorite," Yona gushed.
"Yep. I bought these at a port. The merchant said they bring good luck charms to the owners," Hana said.
"I can't believe you believe in that kind of superstition," Hak appeared out of nowhere between the sisters, startling the both of them.
"Shut up," Hana snapped at him. Putting her hands on her hips in annoyance, she asked, "why are you literally everywhere?"
"Because I'm her bodyguard," Hak nodded to Yona, "anyway, the king is looking for the both of you. The celebration is starting."
—
Hana felt smothered by these people. She was in the great hall where the celebration was held, all by herself. She'd been separated from her father and sister an hour ago by the lords and ladies who seemingly had taken interest in her, now that she was donning a beautiful and expensive dress. Their young sons were also the same, but worse. They were constantly flirting with her with their fake smiles. It made her want to punch a wall.
