You two had been asleep for a while before you both woke up to a disturbance outside of the house. Piotrek grabbed you tight, pulling you close to him. You both sighed and he sat up.

"What was that?" You asked him. He shrugged.

"I honestly have no idea, but I'm getting up to shut the door to the bedroom." He sat up, and you held onto his arm. "Come on, let go."

"But it's cold..." you muttered, loosening your grip on his arm. He wiggled free, marching to the door and closing it. He then came back, and you felt the bed shift under his weight as he laid back down.

"See? How hard was that, (y/n)?" He chuckled a little. You both began to hear rain gently pelting against the window and a slight rumble of thunder in the distance. A storm must have been rolling in. You decided to think nothing of it, snuggling back up in bed and closing your eyes. You were about to fall asleep again, until...

CRASH!!!

Something knocked down the door. Piotrek jolted up, grabbing the crowbar by his bed.

"Hey, hey, calm down... it was probably just the wind!" You whispered.

"Wind doesn't do that." He muttered, sternly. "It isn't safe..."
Just as he said that, something began to scratch on the bedroom door. He squinted, reaching below his bed and pulling up a more heavyweight weapon, a hammer.

"Are you crazy!?" You whisper-shouted, grabbing his arm. "Come on, we could just climb out the window or something." You suggested. Maybe you should have told him about the creature that chased you to his house.. maybe it picked up on your scent and found you. Those things fixated on their prey like nobody's business.

"Maybe a little." Piotrek deadpanned. "I want you to close your eyes and cover your ears." He gripped the hammer tightly in his fist, the scratching against the bedroom door becoming louder. "This is going to be ugly."

"Piotrek, no! That thing has like.. twice your strength!" You whined, grabbing his arm, to which he promptly shook you off.

"(Y/n)," he looked back at you, "I used to work on that spaceship outside in the dark. I know how to kill these things." He stood up, walking up to the door and putting a hand on the knob. "You've gotta hit them in the right spot, right on the head. I-I could show you if you'd like." His tone softened.

"I-I.. just kill it before it breaks into the room." You gulped. "I'll watch."

Piotrek didn't wait another second before swinging the door open, hauling the hammer over his head with two hands and hitting that beast right in the skull. It was a stick savage, indicating that you were in the Silent Forest. You winced as you heard its skull crack, and watched it silently fall to the ground, head pooling blood all over the floor.

"'Ya catch that?" Piotrek asked, looking back at you and chuckling at the stunned look on your face. "I guess you did. Let me go clean this up."

You watched intently as he dragged the body outside, displaying it in front of his house as a warning sign to the other savages that roamed about. Smart, you thought, maybe I should try that sometime.

After crudely fixing his door, as well as he could on two hours of sleep and a headache, he rinsed his face in the sink and returned to the bedroom.

He came back to the bed and sat at the edge, sighing and rubbing his face. He looked exhausted.

"Y-y'know, Piotrek," you began, looking up at him, "I don't think that would have happened if I weren't here.." you admitted. He cocked and eyebrow and looked back at you.

"Don't be silly. This is commonplace nowadays." He reassured, but you continued.

"No, but.. that might have been what was chasing me, it wouldn't have broken down your door if it didn't smell me, I don't think." Guilt was evident in your voice as you spoke, but Piotrek took pity on you and put a hand on your tangled head.

"(Y/n), please, it's okay. We're acquaintances now, right? We've gotta protect eachother." He spoke softly, his voice and words calming you down almost immediately. "I can teach you some things, maybe you could teach me things too. We're here to help eachother now." He offered a gap-tooth smile, to which you smiled back.

"I guess you're right, Piotrek." You said, sitting up next to him. "Are you gonna teach me how to tinker? I-I know some things. I could teach you how to forage in the woods.. y'know, for food and such. I'm sure you do plenty of scavenging on your own."

"Yes, I could." He said, sounding tired but still wanting to talk. "I'll teach you anything you want me to, alright? If you stay here we can work together on some things." He idly put an arm around you, to which your face heated up.

"What kinda things?" You asked, your curiosity peaked. You watched his eyes light up a bit when you asked.

"We could cook together and stuff. I could take you out trading... we could make blueprints together.. many things, (Y/n)." He smiled, his arm moving to your hand and gripping it. "Only if you'd want to, of course."

You turned to face him, looking into his eyes. You were speechless for the most part.. everyone back home had warned you about how unfriendly it was in the Silent Forest, yet you were there, face-to-face with the sweetest boy you'd ever met.

"Oh, Piotek. I'd love to." You smiled. He gripped your hand tighter, lifting it off the bed.

"So, we're pals?" He excitedly asked.

"We're pals." You verified, and you two shook hands. "Thanks for offering me shelter tonight. It means a lot to me."

"It's no problem, been a little too lonely around here anyway." He sighed, laying back down. You scurried next to him and laid down as well, a wave of drowsiness crashing over you as your head hit the pillow. He yawned, and so did you.

"Well, I'm glad I could help you be a little less lonely." You slurred, suddenly gaining the courage to lean up and kiss his cheek. Maybe it was the drowsiness. You immediately saw him blush.

"G-goodnight, (Y/n)." He managed, flustered. You were already asleep by time he finished speaking.
