Leonard and I walked down the street and I felt extremely awkward because I don't even know the guy.
It didn't actually take us long to get where we were going but it felt like it did.
We barely made small talk on the way there but in my defence, socializing with new people has never been my strong suit.
We made our way inside the bar, the delicious smell of food instantly engulfing my senses.
When's the last time I've even eaten?
Leonard and I made our way to a table and took our seats. I quickly picked up a menu to occupy myself and spare me some of the awkwardness.
He did the same, fixing his eyes over the small print.
Shortly after, a waitress came by and asked if we were ready to order.
"Yes uh I'll have the cheeseburger combo but instead of a soda could I just get a beer?" He flashed her a friendly smile.
"Certainly. And for the lady?" She asked turning to me.
"Hmm. I'll have the blueberry pancakes with.." I paused while my eyes scanned over the beverage portion of the menu. "Ooh! With an apple martini please." I said with excitement evident in my voice.
The waitress chuckled as she wrote down my order. "Your food will be ready shortly." Before turning and walking away.
Leonard looked at me with a flabbergasted expression. "What?" I awkwardly laughed.
"Pancakes for lunch is one thing but a martini before 5pm? You're living straight on the edge." He joked causing me to laugh at how much of a square he is.
"Oh Leonard. You have not lived until you've day drank."
Shortly after our food had come, I downed my martini and ordered another. I had convinced him to have one as well.
After finishing our food and few more drinks we just decided to sip on beers.
The drinks had given me quite the nice buzz and the alcohol had allowed me to loosen up some.
"I don't mean to be intrusive but that must have been really scary for you.. with what happened and all." Leonard said with sympathy in his voice.
"Yeah.. yeah it really was. Being kidnapped was one thing but a superpower?! That's next level." I shook my head.
"It may seem like a curse now but maybe there's a way you can control it and use it to your advantage." He suggested
"How do you mean?" I questioned as I took a sip of my drink.
"You said what happened at the motel was an accident but today you made popcorn pop intentionally." He reminded, I shook my head in agreement.
"Well yeah.." I began but he cut me off.
"What was going through your mind as you made it pop?"
I thought about it for a second, instantly remembering my mind thinking about the events from the night before.
"I was thinking about what happened yesterday." I admitted.
"And how were you feeling as you thought about it?"
"Um confused.. angry.." I shrugged as I stared at the drink in my hand.
"Remember how I said your emotions are what trigger it? Well I think that proves it. Here how about I take your number and help you figure this out?" He offered as he handed me his phone.
