chapter 18

The next day I wake up and head out of the living into the kitchen. William was in the kitchen making pancakes. I go over my him and lean my back into the counter.

"Hey, how are you doing?" he says looking over at me with a smile.

"Good."

Then Alex walks in through the other side of the kitchen.

"Oh look Olivia, Alex decided to join us."

"Haha very funny."

"You two will be coming with me to the hospital today because Michael has gone for some meeting."

"But can't Jay stay with us?" I ask.

"Jay and Mr. Briggs has gone with Michael to the meeting so you two have to come with me."

"That sounds...fun," says Alex sarcastically.

We have breakfast and then get ready to go. I get changed into my jeans and senior sweatshirt. I grab my sunglasses and pull on my black boots. I then head outside and get into the car with Alex in the back seat. He was wearing the same sweatshirt I was with jeans and his tennis shoes. We go straight to the hospital and I pull on my sunglasses before we get out of the car.

Alex holds my hand as we head inside. When Williams phone buzzes after we get inside he goes running and quickly says to us "you two stay here I'll be right back I need to go check on something."

We both sit down in the waiting room. After a bit Alex's phone buzzes with a text.

"What is it?" I ask.

"It's just my dad. We're just gonna have to hang out here."

"Okay."

"Looks this this is gonna be a very fun day."

We just start laughing and then get quiet when we hear sirens of an Ambulance approach. I turn to see them rushing someone, who looks very familiar, in on a stretcher. William rushes to help them. Then I see my dad and Jay not to far behind them. That's when I realized it's Mr. Briggs on the stretcher. I pull off my sunglasses and my hood. I run over to my dad and he quickly takes me in his arms.

"What happened?"

"You don't need to worry about this. Everything is gonna be fine. Now I need to go talk to someone and I'll be back in a minute."

My dad walks away leaving just Alex and Jay with me. I turn to Jay and he looks down at me.

"What happened?"

"Nothing that you need to worry about."

"Just tell me what happened."

"All you need to remember is that Mr. Briggs and I will always take a bullet for you two no matter what. We will take a bullet for anyone just to protect them."

I give up on arguing and just stay quiet. We go back and sit down on the seats. I sit in the middle of Alex and Jay not saying a word. There was nothing to say anymore. I know Mr. Briggs had to of been shot and he was probably protecting my dad. Even if he didnt come straight out and say it I know that's probably what happened. When my dad walks back in Jay stands up.

"I'm gonna go see if I can get us anything to eat. I'll be back."

My dad just nods his head and sits down by us. Jay leaves with a quick wave. We sit again in silent. My dad then stands up while staring at his phone.

"I've gotta go. William or Jay should be back soon. You two stay right here."

"Where are you going and how are you even going to get there?"
