After school the paranormal club set off to Dívad's house. The place was large like a mansion and had one turret. "That's where David's body was found," Danial told them. The whole place had a spooky air. Dívad knocked on the door. "I'm home! And I brought some friends from school with me!" He called. There was the sound of someone descending the stairs and a woman with long brown hair and tanned skin like her son was standing before them. "Welcome to our home," she said. The members of the paranormal club introduced themselves and were welcomed into the house.
They made there way into the sitting room. The whole house was covered in dust. They sat down at the coffee table. "How shall we start our investigation?" asked Violet.
"We'll start by examining the place where David's body was found," said Chris "after that we'll take a tour around the house if that's ok."
So the paranormal club plus Dívad went up stairs to the tower. "Is anyone using the room at present?" Asked Chris.
"We were going to turn it into a attic," replied Dívad.
"Do you have the thermometer, Danial?" Asked Chris. Danial removed a thermometer from his pocket in reply and Chris nodded. "What's the thermometer for?" Asked Dívad.
"The areas spirits inhabit are generally colder than other areas," replied Chris.
"It's a little dusty," warned Dívad. It was just as well that Dívad warned them. He pushed open the door and the five of them all trouped into the to be attic. They were assailed by a thick cloud of dust. "It's more than a little dusty!" Exclaimed Jasmine.
"Sorry about that," said Dívad apologetically.
"Any way... Take the air temperature of the room please Danial," said Chris. Danial nodded and he again removed the thermometer from his pocket and pressed the central button. A high-pitched rhythmic beeping filled the room. "Ugh, I hate this noise," said Jasmine putting her hands over her ears. After a few minutes the beeping stopped. "That's odd..." Said Danial, "the air temperature is completely normal. It shouldn't be though this is where the spirit killed David the temperature should be at least a little bit lower..." Danial said.
"Obviously the spirit has moved to another location. Can we tour the house now?" Said Chris and Dívad nodded.
They left the room and went down stairs. "I have to ask Mum if you can go in hers and Dad's bedroom," said Dívad.
"We'll leave that until last then," said Chris. They went down the stairs. "As you know, this is the lounge area," said "Dívad. Danial once again took the temperature of the room. Once again it was normal. Dívad took them to the basement which was a dark and foreboding area of the house which Jasmine refused to enter. However despite the ominousness of the room once again the temperature was normal. They next toured the kitchen, the bathroom, the dining room, the second living room, the second bathroom, the spare bedroom and the storage area. In every room Danial checked the air temperature. In each room the temperature was normal and the paranormal club was starting to become doubtful.
"This is my room," said Dívad as he pushed open the door. They stepped into the room. "It's a little chilly in here," said Violet wrapping her arms around herself.
"It is," agreed Jasmine, "I think I'll get my jacket." They stood there shivering and then it dawned on Dívad. "It's cold...in my room...in an Australian summer... didn't you say it was cold when spirits are in a room," said Dívad slowly.
"Yes! You're right! The absence of cases must be wearing down my instincts! Temperature please Danial," exclaimed Chris. Danial hit the central button and the high-pitched beeping filled the room. "It's five degrees Celsius. There is definitely a spirit here," said Danial. They all stared wide eyed around the room. It could have been minutes or it could have been hours. At last Dívad broke the silence. "So, I don't have to ask Mum to go in her room then?" He said.
"...No," said Chris in an awestruck voice.
About an hour later the paranormal club plus Dívad were all gathered in the living room. "You all asked your parents permission to stay the night, didn't you?" Asked Chris. Everyone minus Dívad nodded. "And your parents said we could," Chris said turning to Dívad who nodded. "What's the next move?" Asked Danial.
"Now, the easiest way to get rid of a spirit is to find out what's binding it to the Earth and help it fix whatever is binding it. The only way to do that is to communicate with it and the best and most direct way to do that is to hold a seance. So that's what we'll do. Who would like to volunteer themselves to be the spirits communication device?" Said Chris smiling round at them all in the sheer excitement of doing what he loved. Hesitantly Violet raised her hand. "I will," she said in a small voice.
"Excellent Violet, that's the spirit! We hold a seance in Dívad's room tonight," declared Chris.
That night they had dinner with Dívad's family.
During dinner they were told that Danial and Chris would have to share Dívad's room and the girls would sleep in the spare bedroom across the hall. The plan was to hold the seance at about midnight as it would be less likely that they would be interrupted by Dívad's parents or that the spirit making noises or flickering lights would disturb anyone else. After dinner they all spent the rest of the night finalising their plans for the seance. At about half past ten they retired to their bedrooms. They spent a restless hour and a half waiting for the time for the seance to come. All five of them were tossing and turning. At last the alarm clock rang in the girls room and they padded quietly across the hallway to Dívad's room and knocked on the door.
