"Come in," Chris's voice was muffled by the door but it was brimming with excitement. The girls had brought jackets with them in preparation for the cold caused by the spirit. The boys were kneeling at a low circular table with a torch in the centre. There was a stack of paper and a pencil at one side for Violet to communicate with the spirit. As Chris put it, "Spirits prefer not to communicate by speaking using another person's voice."
"Is everything prepared?" Asked Chris.
"I think so," said Danial.
"Then let's begin," Chris decided. They all took their places around the table.
"Err, properly, we ought to hold hands," said Jasmine.
"Is that necessary?" Asked Danial.
"Yes." And so although the general feeling about this was rather awkward they took each others hands. So the seance began. The lights were switched off and the torch turned on.
"Jasmine, this is your department please begin," said Chris.
"Close your eyes and take a deep breath and call out to the spirits," Jasmine said. Everyone did as they were instructed. "To the spirit who dwells in this house. We welcome you to our midst and ask that you would use this girls hand to commune with us. We humbly ask that you would speak to us so that we may understand your wishes. If you hear my plea please use this girl to speak to us." At Jasmine's words the light of the torch began to flicker and with it Violet's hand began to move rapidly across the paper. There began to be knocking sounds across the walls and Jasmine tensed visibly at what she had summoned. Suddenly the figure of a boy in his night clothes appeared. He was sandy haired with blue eyes. He was translucent with hazy edges. He looked to be a little younger then the children gathered there. Maybe twelve or thirteen. He seemed to hover a few centimetres above the floor. At his appearance Violets hand stilled and the banging ceased. "It seems the spirit is more willing to speak to us than we originally thought. Why would that be though?" Said Chris quietly.
"The spirit grants permission to be questioned," said Jasmine equally quietly. Chris nodded to Danial.
"Are you David? The boy who died here?" Asked Danial. To their surprise Violet wrote nothing but the ghostly boy began to speak in a whisper of a voice that sounded like the wind whistling through the trees. "Yes, I am David," said the spirit.
"How did you die?" Asked Danial.
"I was killed, murdered," said David.
"By what?"
"An ancient evil,"
"An evil spirit?"
"No,"
"Then what?"
"I dare not speak of it. I have told you to beware of it. There," said David and pointed at Violet.
"Are you the one haunting this house?" Asked Danial.
"No...it is not I. It is it. The evil I mentioned," said David. There was a shocked silence. Everyone had thought it was David haunting the house and causing the accidents that had turned into killings. "Then why do you linger?" Asked Danial, puzzled.
"I have something I want to do. Something only I can do," replied David.
"What is it?"
"I want to protect Dívad and his family. I have wanted to protect everyone who has moved here and died. But I couldn't. I will not pass on until this evil is destroyed," David declared.
"I see. Thank you, David," said Danial and nodded to Jasmine.
"We thank the spirit, David, for obliging our wish to commune with him and bid him farewell," said Jasmine. The torch stopped flickering and they released each others hands. Chris got up and turned the light on. "Are you alright?" Jasmine asked Violet who nodded.
"Umm, just curious but when you said 'this is your department' to Jasmine, it made it seem like you all have particular talents. Is that true?" asked Dívad.
"Yes, we all specialise in certain areas. Jasmine specialises in seances, Danial in communicating with spirits and Violet in calming evil spirits, however she can't exercise them," replied Chris.
"What about you?" Asked Dívad. Chris pretended not to hear him.
"What has David told us on paper?" He asked. Violet handed him the paper and Chris began to read it out loud.
"The thing that haunts this house is not a spirit. It is the embodiment of the man who commissioned the house to be built . He died on the construction site when it was being opened. He wanted it to be built for his family to live here but after he died on the site they didn't want to and so he has been killing everyone else who moved here because it was meant for his family and not them. Beware he will come for you to," Chris finished reading and looked up.
"This sounds dangerous. I don't know about this. Maybe we should discontinue the case..." Said Jasmine in a worried voice.
"No! Absolutely not! If we discontinue the case, not only will we lose the best case in the paranormal club's history, but we will be leaving Dívad and his family in danger. If you want to leave, you can. But I'm staying until I've seen this case through!" Said Chris, outraged.
"Ok, ok. We won't leave. I just think we should be very, very careful," said Jasmine.
"It's late. We should probably go back to bed," said Danial. They all nodded and once again retired to bed.
About an hour and a half later. There was a scream from the girls room. It was loud and long and piercing. "It's the girls! Quick!" Shouted Chris. Danial, Chris and Dívad sprinted out of the room across the hallway and into the girls room. Dívad banged open the door and they hurried over the threshold and into the room. All three boys eyes widened in horror!
