When Kathy showed up at my house on Saturday morning she ran into my room, demanding I tell what I've been waiting to say all week.

"Okay, but when I tell you this, you can't freak out, or ask why. Okay?" I looked her, sternly. Trying to be as serious as possible.

"Okay, yep yep I won't, promise." She replied, giddily.

"Okay, so uh, there's this talent I guess you could call it. I can see two small red threads connecting two people together, but the thing is those people aren't just ordinary people, they're soul mates. You know, like destined to be together for eternity. And I've known who you were connected to for a long time, but if I told you that'd ruin all the fun, now wouldn't it?" I looked at her as she shrunk in her seat. "Okay, and I just got mine a few weeks ago and ever since I've been trying to figure out who I am connected to. It's not Grant, although he makes me feel so great you might think otherwise."

She stared at me, stunned. I guess I left her speechless.

"Say something, please." I begged.

She looked at me in disbelief and started laughing as hard as she could.

I opened my mouth slightly, as if to gasp but nothing came out.

I looked at the ground, kind of hurt she didn't believe me.

"You're not being serious are you Nicks babe?  I mean come on. A thread connecting two people who are supposedly meant to be together?  Do you know how obserred that sounds?" She giggled at me.

"Yeah, I guess..." I said after, laughing slightly to myself.  Loud enough for Kathy to hear but quiet enough so I know I wouldn't believe it was real laughter.

How couldn't my own best friend believe me?

But then I got to thinking about it, that was actually kind of crazy.

I mean, no one has ever reported this happening to them, so why was it happening to me?

Maybe I wasn't supposed to get this, maybe this is all wrong.

I'm a freak.
