To those who have been in a relationship, I ask you only one question. Have you ever been caressed by that addictive entity at the birth of your relationship? Have you ever been hooked on that dopamine-filled feeling that makes you question your grip on reality and wakes you up in the morning with a smile? I am asking you guys, have you ever been acquainted with the Honeymoon Phase?
Well Jonah had never experienced this feeling of euphoria until one fateful meeting with a stunning young woman who would later, unbeknownst to him, break his granite heart.
Jonah saw the world in a very strange way different from the rest of his peers, he sought out to observe the overlooked, see the unseen and witness the invisible. Where people saw art, he saw stories. Where people saw words, he saw worlds. This continued in a pattern with everything he saw, even the day he had met Lila.
When people looked at Lila all they saw was a normal girl with great ambitions and an enormous bosom, but when he looked at her, it felt like his center of gravity was in flux. Escaping and returning, twisting and distorting the way he viewed the world. Although this might've only happened for a moment, it had felt like eternity to our dear Jonah. All these classic and cliché effects disappeared as soon as they had reared their ugly heads but one unexpected 'side effect' lingered.
To Jonah, it seemed as if the whole world had kept its color except around her. It was as if all color was being drained by her very essence. The very aura around her was an interesting shade of grey, and the more time he spent with her, the more color had seeped into the shade that surrounded her. But the one time Lila's shade had been a myriad of color and the epitome of beauty was the day that he had asked her to be his, and the day he had offered her to become hers.
Sadly for Jonah, that was the last time her aura had sparked like that. The thing is, Lila had walked into Jonah's life at a very inconvenient time and life had chosen that very moment to show him that. A series of events had occurred which had forced Jonah away from his dear Lila and consequently had also led his attention elsewhere. It is during this period of time that Lila's aura had gradually started to lose its color
It is only when it had decreased a substantial amount that Jonah had been able to notice Lila acting a tad bit different. He decided to devote a bit more time to his other half and it had worked because after a little while, her aura was pulsing with color once more. What Jonah had not known was that Lila's aura had not been pulsing for him. When Jonah had finally taken care of the obstacles life had thrown at him, he was able to transfer the rest of his attention to Lila. It is then that he had started to notice slight changes in her behavior.
Now it was normal for Lila's aura to pulse whenever she saw and/or spoke about Jonah because of their already obvious relationship, what Jonah found odd was that Lila's aura began flaring up whenever she saw Zach, a close friend of Jonah. After conducting a subtle investigation, Jonah subconsciously chalked it off to the three of them just being inseparable friends. But it was more than that, an affair was busy taking place right under Jonah's nose and he was just too blind to perceive it, but not for long.
The thing that allowed our dear Jonah to see the infidelity happening right in front of his eyes was something so minuscule, that it might've been overlooked by anyone other than Jonah.
It happened during a nice relaxing afternoon at Jonah's campus, when Lila had asked about the whereabouts of Zach. Now this to Jonah wasn't that odd but what really set the gears in his mind to motion was when he had told Lila to text Zach to find out where he was. Lila had moved to a more comfortable position, which consisted on her resting her back against his chest. It is then that Lila had unknowingly made her first and biggest mistake. While seated against her lover, she texted Zach to ask him of his whereabouts.
It is at that exact moment that Jonah looked at her texts and had seen how she compiled her sentences when speaking with Zach. It felt oddly familiar and with good reason, seeing as the way she spoke when speaking to Zach is exactly the same way she spoke when speaking to him. It was this little insight that broke the dam of doubt and insecurity which was locked away deep within his psyche. It was then that he saw all the little signs he had written off at once and it is then that he knew that Lila's heart beat for him no more.
Jonah said nothing for the next oncoming days just so that he would be able to observe Zach and Lila's behavior around each other to more solidify his theory about the two. Unfortunately he had been right about them and had decided to confront his lover about it.
At first she denied any and all claims as expected of her to do but in her haste to try and make Jonah forget about this subject and move on, she had mistakenly highlighted that all she and Zach were, were very close acquaintances. A phrase in which Jonah followed up with the following response.
"It is because you two are friends that your actions make even less sense than they already do. I mean, he is supposed to be nothing more than a close friend and I am supposed to mean much more to you than he does. If that is the case, how come your face lights up when you see the both of us? How come you are unable to wait to spend time with either of us? If it is true and you love me much more than you love him, then why is it that he gets the same reactions as the supposed love of your life?"
It is with those words that Jonah had finally extracted the truth from his lovely Lila. It is also with those words that the last bit of color seeped out of Lila's aura. That was the last time that Jonah had seen her aura shine.
Jonah and Lila continued to date for the coming few days but after that, Lila had decided that the two lovers should just part ways from each other. A notion that Jonah himself had considered but never dared to utter for the fear of losing Lila, but as Lila had spoken those dreadful words, as Lila had hit the nail with her iron hammer and sent a crack through Jonah's granite heart, he realized that maybe she was never his to begin with.
A relationship is more than just the Honeymoon Phase. It consists of love and loyalty. Trust and devotion. It consists of kissed and hugs and cuddles and occasional verbal arguments. Cause unfortunately, if you and your lover don't argue, you and your lover are most likely not talking.
