Cut

We were one, together in soul.

I cannot remember life before you.

You place the leftover puzzle pieces

together in my heart.

But you thrashed them apart,

shattering the pieces away,

no warning.

Your true nature has risen.

I played the fool.

Your heart is black, like burnt parchment.

Seeing you know tears my soul,

what’s left of it, apart.

I need you gone completely,

cut out from my life.

That would be better.

Then perhaps I can pull my mind

out of the insane valley,

where thoughts of you linger.

I must erase you from my existence,

so I can just remember what you were

instead of seeing

what you are now.
