Nine Years Ago

I remember the day, only the day. Everything else from my life on Earth had been wiped away by time and pain.

I think someone said something about Mom going shopping, or a deal. The words blurred together now. Edmin was screaming at Robin. Dad was pulling them apart. The ceiling started to come undone, there was a blue light. Unlike anything I'd ever seen. Brilliant like the sun, yet deep and dark like a lake.

Dad cried out as Edmin was being pulled up into the light. Robin next. He screamed my name, my name. What was it? What was my name before this?

He reached for me, and we were pulled up together into the brilliant blue, then to darkness. Next. I'm in a dungeon. Nameless, alone....and there's someone standing over me. A savior reaching out his hand to me.

He gives me a name. The name of a bird, one meant to protect the helpless and guard the strong, Kresshtna.
