She smiles in class.

She holds her head high.

She conceals all the pain, she won't let herself cry.

Why worry about her?

She's as happy as can be.

But she's hiding the truth... you're just failing to see.

Beneath the smiles,

Beneath the sleeves,

A young girl suffers, a young girl grieves.

She grieves her innocents.

She grieves her youth.

Compelled to secrecy, she hides the truth.

She's been violated, attacked.

Suffered too much abuse.

She's ashamed and embarrassed, been deprived of her youth.

Sexually violated and scarred.

She blames herself for the assault.

Looks down at razor-kissed wrist, thinks this is all her own fault.

Just before it's too late,

God answers her prayer.

Finally, she gets noticed, finally, someone is there.

Putting an end to her suffering.

To take the self-hatred and self-harm.

To show her she's still beautiful, despite the rape and scarred arms.

She now knows she's not to blame.

She's no longer hostage to the knife.

But she never will regret what she did to survive.
