Chapter 3: The bird

Alfea Natural Park

"Incredible, everything here is........it's so beautiful!" said Musa who was completely in awe of the sight before her.

"Yes, it is. Years in the making....definitely worth building" said James.

"Now then everyone, the keepers and I are going on an operations inspection. Why you girls take a look around? Who knows? You might just find some nice ideas for the grand opening party next week" said Faragonda as she left with the keepers.

"Oh never fear! Because the queen of parties is here!" said Stella as she did a little dance.

"And I get the feeling that it's going to end badly" said Aisha as she sighed at Stella with a small smile.

"Hey James, can you help me out for a moment here?" asked Tecna as she magically made something appear in her hands.

"Sure Tecna, what is it?" asked James as she approached her friend.

"Hey James! Me and the other girls will be heading down first!" shouted Bloom.

"Ok! Go ahead! Me and Tecna will catch up!" replied James.

Watching them go, Tecna suddenly felt like she was missing out on having the fun.

"Anyways, what can I help you with?" asked James.

"I have this device that I've been working on, it's actually a request from the National Geographic network back on Earth. It's supposed to identify animals and basically provide information about them on the spot" said Tecna.

"Ok and what's the problem?" asked James.

"It's actually the power source for this device, I'm just worried that humans may not be ready for this sort of thing" said Tecna.

"And what exactly is powering it?" asked James.

"The new renewable power source that's currently in the works on Zenith. But since it's new, there's bound to be issues that need rectifying. I'm planning on replacing it with this standard power source, which by human standards is still considered high tech to them" said Tecna as she brought out the standard power source.

"I see...........in that case, why don't you let me do it? I'll fix your device while you go and join our friends" said James.

"Are you sure? You deserve to explore this place as well" said Tecna.

"Don't worry, I'll catch up. Besides, we've got a whole week anyways. A day of missing out on adventure wouldn't harm anyone, especially me" said James as she took the device from Tecna's hands.

"Ok, if you say so. Thanks James! I'll make a note of the most exciting parts of the park for you to explore later on with us!" said Tecna as she quickly ran to rejoin the others.

"And....now that that's out of the way, let's see what exactly powers this thing" said James as she began opening up the device.

She had to admit, this was pretty advanced stuff despite it's simple appearance. When she saw the power source however, James just stared at it in disbelief.

"Well, no wonder Tecna wanted to replace it, it's really Zenith level tech here. The power source is extremely advanced but it's also incomplete. Turn this device on and it will definitely blow up in your face. Now comes the tricky part, this power source is also radioactive. I can handle it without protection but still........." said James.

"Ah James, is everything alright? Where are the others?" asked Faragonda as she passed by.

"Everything's fine, just helping Tecna fix this little gadget. The girls are probably deep in the park by now so I'm gonna have a hard time catching up if I don't move quick enough" said James.
