Hank had just finished making Connor breakfast and was about to bring the plate of food to him when he heard the man's angry tone.
"What do you mean I have to come in today? It's my birthday for fuck sake! I deserve a day off!" He went silent for a moment but Hank could tell he was still angry. "Fine, whatever Captain. Don't expect me to be happy about coming in today," was all he said before Hank heard the beep of the phone being hung up. Connor groaned and there was a heavy thud of the man landing on the couch.
With that Hank entered the living room, steaming plate of food in his hand. "Lieutenant, breakfast is ready," he said as he gestured for Connor to come and sit at the dining table. Connor sighed but nodded and stood, walking over to the table and sitting down just as Hank put the plate down in front of Connor.
"Thank you, Hank. I appreciate everything you do for me, I really do," he said with a soft but slightly sad smile on his face. Hank leaned over and pressed a kiss to Connor's cheek. "You don't need to thank me, Lieutenant, I enjoy doing these things for you."
Connor looked at the android and smiled a bit more. "You missed you, dork," he chuckled as he pulled Hank into a tender kiss. The day may have started off bad but Hank always made his days better. Hank smiled softly into the kiss before pulling away.
"Eat your breakfast," he said with a smile as he headed to the kitchen to clean the dishes. Connor chuckled and dug into his food, which was perfect as always. They continued about their daily morning routine and Hank started planning something for after work.

It was around 9:45 PM when Connor and Hank finally arrived home from work. Connor was even grumpier than he was that morning and had stormed off to his room once his shoes were off. It didn't help that it had started pouring on the drive home and although Connor ran from the car to the house he still got soaked. A trail of water droplets followed behind Connor and Hank made note to clean that up afterwards. But first, he had a mission.
Once Hank was sure that Connor was fast asleep, Hank placed a glass of water on the bedside table and headed to the kitchen to get everything ready. He wanted to make this birthday special because it wasn't just a celebration of Connor's day of birth, it was also a celebration of their partnership together and the relationship they developed.
Hank smiled at the thought as he worked, humming a soft tune that he knew Connor liked. Within no time he was finished and stepped back into the living room to admire his work. The table was cleared of any clutter and now had a nice tablecloth and two plates set neatly on each side along with a candle producing a soft light in the middle of the table. He had even made little party hats for Connor, himself and Sumo. It wasn't much but it was the best Hank could do with the limited amount of supplies in the house.
While Hank admired his handiwork with a smile, there was shuffling from Connor's room. Hank turned just as Connor opened the bedroom door and walked out whilst yawning and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he made his way over to Hank.
"Hey Hank, what smells so good?" He asked, yawning again and wrapping his arms around Hank before kissing his cheek with a soft hum.
Hank smiled and kissed Connor's forehead. "Your birthday cake," he hummed as he hugged Connor back.
"Birthday cake? What do you mean?" Connor asked, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
Hank chuckled softly and let go of Connor, moving towards the oven to take the cake out. Connor followed Hank curiously. Hank set the cake on the counter and turned his head to smile softly at Connor.
"Hank you didn't have to bake me a cake," he said, hugging Hank from behind. Hank hummed softly and turned around in Connor's arms, placing a quick kiss on one of his cheeks.
"It wouldn't be much of birthday without a birthday cake," Hank chuckled before kissing Connor's forehead. Connor smiled, a soft pink blush covering his cheeks. "Go sit at the table, I'll get you a piece of cake." Connor nodded and stood on his tiptoes to place a small kiss on Hank's forehead before taking his seat at the table. A moment later a piece of chocolate cake was placed in front of Connor, a singular candle burning proudly on top of it. Connor just stared at the candle, smiling softly as tears began to slip down his cheeks. He looked up at Hank, his eyes filled with overwhelming happiness and pure love.
"Thank you, Hank. I really mean it. You didn't have to do any of this for me," he whispers before wiping away a few tears of happiness. He then turned to his cake, closed his eyes and blew out the candle.
"Happy birthday, Connor," Hank murmured, leaning over and kissing the top of Connor's head. Once Hank straightens himself Connor immediately jumped out of his chair.
"Wait here," he called as he rushed off to his room. Hank tilted his head in confusion but remained where he stood. Connor returned a few moments later, looking more nervous now and fidgeting with something in his hands. "Hank?" Connor asked and Hank turned to look at the shorter man as he fidgeted nervously.
"Yes, Connor? Is something wrong?" Hank asked, cupping one of Connor's cheeks. Connor simply shook his head and stared at Hank with wide eyes that radiated love and a hint of fear.
"You love me, right?" Connor asked, barely above a whisper. Hank nodded and frowned.
"Of course I love you, Connor, why wouldn't I?" The deviated android was slightly confused by the question.
Connor smiled before answering. "I was just wondering," he said as he took a shaky breath before saying, "I know it's my birthday but I have a gift for you." Then, before Hank could say anything, Connor shifted and slowly slid down on one knee, holding out a box in his hands and opening it slowly. "Will you marry me?" He asked quietly, staring up at Hank, the fear in his eyes clearer now. Hank knew why he was scared but didn't feel that Connor really needed to be scared. Hank smiled widely, a tear slipping down his cheek as he knelt down in front of Connor.
"Of course I will, Connor. I'm not sure how marriage between an android and a human is even possible but even if it isn't I won't let that stop me from calling you mine," Hank murmured before leaning in to kiss Connor. Connor began to cry happily whilst kissing Hank back and slowly slipping the silver band on Hank's ring finger. After a few seconds, they broke apart and Connor rested his forehead against Hank's. They remained like that before Connor spoke again.
"I love you so much, Hank. I'm so happy you said yes," Connor whispered as Hank shifted so he was sitting cross-legged on the floor and could pull Connor to sit in his lap.
"I love you too, Connor."
