(Y/n) eventually found Lydia in a department store with a dress that was perfect and was rung up already with her mother's credit card that was snuck from the elder's bag. After much complaint to her parents and Lydia (Mary was at her piano lessons),  (Y/n) found herself at the more secluded area in a nearby park. She went there to think often. The poor woman never got peace unless she was alone.

The (h/c) girl sat underneath a large tree and sighed. As she went to rub her face, a weight on her arm pulled it back. In her rush to leave the noisy house, (Y/n) carried along her side bag with her.  A small sad chuckle escaped her lips. She was exhausted. With an upward tug of her mouth, (Y/n) remembered the free energy bar samples she had gotten at the market and had stuffed them in her bag. To her surprise, a thick black journal fell out. Confused, she read the title aloud.

"Death Note?"

"Are you out of your mind?!" Ji asked sternly.

The two shinigami glanced at each other, then back at Ji. "What was wrong about it? She seems responsible and you know her," Crisp reasoned.

Ji tugged on his hair in frustration as he paced in his apartment. Sitting on the counter, Crisp munched on a Honey Crisp apple while Rem followed Ji's movements with her eye. The man suddenly stopped and rubbed his face.

"Okay, maybe I should have explained a little more carefully about this realm. The Death Note should not be given away lightly--"

For the first time, Crisp heard Rem laugh.

Ji placed his hands on his hips and fumed, "Ha ha, yes it was an unintentional pun. Now stop laughing, it's not funny."

Crisp blinked in confusion. "What was the joke?"

Ji and Rem froze. "Do you not know of Kira?" Rem asked. Crisp shook his head. "I asked my father once about it, but the only thing he was to never give the Death Note to the child of the Chief of Police."

Rem rubbed her long face. "Gods, Ryuk. You're so stupid."

"I'll tell you the tale of your father's boredom and Kira," Ji started, "but only after I mention one thing."

"Okay, what's that?" Crisp asked.

Pushing up his glasses with a glint in his eye, Ji stated, "(Y/n) Matsuda is the daughter of the chief of police."

"The human whose name is written in this note shall die..."

(Y/n) tapped her pencil against her cheek as she thought about those words.

"Wouldn't it be more beneficial for a detective or someone in the Justice Department to have this book? I mean, it would solve the crime rate in the world, surely, but is it morally right?"

The girl's gaze never wavered from the pages. After the black book fell out of her purse in the park, she examined the writing and shortly rushed home. Usually she would pass off this kind of thing as a prank but...it just didn't settle with her. As much as she wanted to get out of the house before, it meant nothing compared to if anyone else saw the Note.

"Maybe dad would know something about this."

She hopped off her bed to open the door but paused as she reached for the handle. Her hand retreated and she sighed. No, I can't do that. That would cause a lot of problems for everyone, I just know it.

The girl walked to her desk and sat down in her chair in front of it. She stared for a moment at seemingly was nothing at all before tapping one of her drawers. "If I remember correctly..."

(Y/n) picked up a pen from her desk and placed it in an opening underneath the drawer. She had found a secret compartment in the desk in her early childhood before her mother divorced her father. Her father loved her biological mother dearly, but there was something that happened between them that they never told their three children. Then her father married her stepmom and had Kitty and Lydia.

It seemed kind of ironic her father would remarry a fashion model.

Slipping the Note into the compartment, (Y/n) hesitated. Shouldn't she try it out? To see if it worked? She glanced at her bedroom door and then shook her head. She closed the drawer, and then went down stairs for supper. The Death Note could wait.

Her mother was making apple pie for dessert.
