Okay, note before we start:

I was going to write the reader's backstory into the plot, but it got too complicated so I'll lay it out here.

Matsuda and Sayu got married (like they were planning to in APTNL) and had three children: Jane, (Y/n), and Mary Anne. They lived in the Yagami house. After Matsuda and Sayu had Mary Anne, they divorced because of conflict of opinion with Light (Sayu didn't know how he died until Matsuda blurted out that he killed him for being Kira). Sayu took Jane with her to a new home while Matsuda had custody of the other girls [(Y/n) does go visit Jane from time to time]. He then remarried Misa, who finally got over Light and got some mental help after forgetting about the Note, and had Kitty and Lydia together. They still live in the Yagami house.

Okay now on with the story!

Crisp blinked at the man before him.

"So what you're telling me is that my father dropped a Death Note into the human realm because he was bored and the result, that was completely out of his hands, was the death of a couple million of people."

Ji sighed, "Yes. Do you understand?"

The young half-shinigami glanced at Rem. "Why was this bad besides a bunch of bad humans dying?"

Ji groaned. "It. Was. Bad. So don't do what he did."

"Father was not at fault. Neither was Rem, she was only doing what she could to protect herself. Yeah, the consequences were terrible but it all worked out in the end."

Rem nodded. "Ji, at least he knows now, and he can warn (Y/n) not to use it unless necessary."

The man slumped into the couch, defeated. "I'm only concerned for (Y/n). This is all too coincidental. The Note falling BACK into the Yagami family." He paused before sitting up in interest. "Actually, why did you slip the Note in (Y/n)'s bag?"

Crisp's yellow eyes flickered to the other shinigami's and then back to Ji.

"She was...very beautiful...a-and you know her, so I thought it would be easier--"

Rem placed a talon on the boy's mouth before he could continue.

"You don't need to explain. I will show you what to do next."

Ji shook his head. "Rem, if we have kids, will they be like this?"

The female rolled her eye. "Probably," she replied. "Now, where's you're note, Ji? We need some explaining to do to the girl."

***Do not act cocky like your father--tHat'S nO fUn--be at least the tiniest bit of sensitive***

(Y/n) looked at her phone to check the time. The night before she had received a message from Ji to meet her at his apartment. Georgie was dropped off there to be baby sat instead of at her house. So at five in the afternoon sharp, she was in front of Ji's apartment door.

After a couple of knocks, the door opened. "Come in, m'lady!" Ji greeted cheerfully. (Y/n) chuckled as she stepped inside. "Where's Georgie?"

"In the living room. But I need to explain something to you...a lot actually," Ji said nervously, scratching the back of his neck.

(Y/n) raised a brow, but questioned nothing as she sat on the couch next to Georgie. The small teenager smiled softly at the other. "Hello, (Y/n). I heard that you're going to meet my friend today."

(Y/n) squinted in confusion. "Friend?"

Georgie nodded. "She's nice and pretty and strong--" she broke off and looked above her. (Y/n) looked around. She didn't see anyone--

"Sorry, Miss Matsuda, I wasn't supposed to talk about her yet."

What on earth is she talking about?

Ji came back and sighed, a book in his hand. "(Y/n)," he held out the flat object, "touch this book please." She glanced down at the cover. It had strange symbols on it and it was pitch black. Her fingers slid across the cover before hearing a different monotone voice behind her.

"Good afternoon, Miss Matsuda. It is a pleasure to finally speak with you."

(Y/n) slowly swiveled her head up to a large pale being. Nervous sweat started at her brow. "W-what...w-who are you?" she asked. Georgie smiled next to her. "That's Rem, silly. Ji's shinigami."

A god of death?

"Don't worry, (Y/n), Rem is my friend too. I'm not scared of her, she's nice," Georgie explained.

Rem nodded. "I have known you for most of your life, young one, but do not be scared. No harm will come to you. The only reason I had Ji reveal me to you was because of your Death Note."

The girl's (e/c) eyes widened.

"H-hold on. Ji has a shinigami that Georgie and now I can see. The book he had me touch was...his Death Note?" She looked back at the man who nodded. "So anyone who has a Note has a shinigami?"

"Every Death Note has a shinigami owner. If it falls into the human realm, then it stays with the humans. Whoever picks up the Note is the human owner of it. The shinigami owner must reveal themselves to the human owner and watch over them. This is where you come in," Rem explained.

"Me?"

Ji pointed to her book bag. "You brought it with you so no one would see it, right?"

How does he know my actions so well?

"H-how do you know if I have one or not?"

Rem rolled her eye.

"Ji, she is definitely a Yagami. I bet she even did the thinking thing."

Thinking thing?

"Yep, she did," Ji added.

Frustrated, (Y/n) pulled out her Death Note and slid it onto the coffee table in front of her. "Here. Is that what you want?" she huffed. Rem picked it up and flipped through the pages. "Empty,  good...Crisp, your parents are so sweet. They both wrote out the rules."

"Who's Crisp?"

(Y/n) looked to Georgie. The other girl shrugged.

"Crisp is your shinigami...sort of," Ji said. He turned his head towards the hall. "You can come out now!"

A pale, golden blond-haired boy stepped out of the shadows of the hallway. He wore a white shirt and dark skinny jeans . Soft tan freckles adorned his cheeks. The only non-human feature was his eyes. They were yellow and red.

(Y/n)'s eyes widened. "You don't look like Rem."

The boy scratched his head. "When two shinigami have a kid, they're human-ish first and then when they die they look full shinigami." He stuck out a hand. "My name is Crisp. I tried to introduce myself before, but you couldn't see me then."

(Y/n) put a hand to her forehead.

This was going to take a while to get used to.
