I slumped over my bowl of cereal. Usually Saturday mornings were the easiest, but nothing has been easy ever since Tuesday. My phone filled with messages to Diego but no response, but I wasn't going to give up there. Today I'm going to try to knock on his door again. Last time I did there was no response which was weird because they always answered for me, so I figured they weren't home.
"Hey bug, what's up?" Dad put down his iPad, and took his glasses off and set them next to his iPad.
"Diego's mad at me. He hasn't talked to me since Tuesday." I stirred the remaining bites left of my Lucky Charms.
"Well what's wrong with him?" Holly piped in, taking a bite from her toast.
"I don't know what's up with him." I lied. "I was going to try to talk to him today but I'm afraid of he's going to slam his door in my face."
"Well at least you're trying to talk to him. Maybe he won't slam the door in your face, maybe he will. You'll never know until you try." Dad shrugged. I think this was one of those moments where he didn't know how to give good advice because it involved me with a boy. He keep it as bare and vague as possible.
"I know." I nodded tucking my fizzy hair from my face.
"Here. I've got a deal. You let me finish my breakfast, and then we can go up stairs and get dressed. I'll do your make-up and hair if you'd like. Then we can go talk to him, because if we're being honest I've always liked that kid. I would hate to see such a lovely friendship be thrown away." Holly smiled.
"Thanks Hol, but I don't see how getting dressed up will make things any better." I breathily laughed.
"That boys got an eye for you. If you don't win him over with your words, you'll leave him speechless with your body." She winked.
"Holly." Dad said in a warning tone.
She giggled, "Oh, quit being and old fart Ryan!"
He rushed up behind her, wrapping his arms around her, "Well if I'm an old fart, I must be a pretty big hit to have landed you."
"I think it may have been you're lovely rants about there not being enough prune juice in the fridge that just made my heart flutter!" She laughed.
"Or maybe it was all my yelling at children because they were on my lawn." He playfully kissed the side of her head.
"Yes! You're such a heartthrob!" She faked swooning.
"I don't know how you handle me." He laughed walked to the counter and pouring himself another glass of milk.
Somehow my crazy ass parents made me smile. I wanted to be like Dad and Holly one day. They always joked around, they had a strong healthy relationship. I had only seen them fight once in my life, it didn't last long. It was probably about an hour before the made up again and everything was normal. I don't know how they did it.
"Come on! We have to get you dolled up!" Holly tugged my arm until I was following her up stairs.
She sat me on my bed, and was now starring at me intently. "Do I have something on my face?" I wiped my mouth and underneath my eyes.
"I've got it!" She said like a light bulb just clicked in her head. She quickly opened my closet door, stepping inside and looking through my hung cloths. "Remember at the beginning of the summer when your father had that business party here? You invited Diego and Katie." She yelled from my closet.
"Yeah." I nodded at the memory, a smile fell on my lips.
"That blue dress looked stunning on you. It literally made your eyes pop." She popped her p's in the word pop.
