(Shizuo P.OV.)

"So how long have you two been together?" Shinra attempted to start a conversation after a few tense minutes in the carriage. "You've got the wrong idea. We're not together. I just didn't want Shizu-chan to cause problems at Izoro's concert." Emerald huffed and turned toward the door. She then began twirling her beautiful black hair. It reminded me of the flea's. Why does he keep popping up!!! It makes me so angry!!
"Your veins popping. It'd be a pity if it burst since I just saved you." Emerald said as a hint of laughter appeared in her eyes.
"I like that look better." I said suddenly. She blushed and was suddenly on guard. " What do you mean? What look?" She glared at me as she spoke.
"I just meant that you look nice when your amused. It's strange, but it's true." She looked speechless and then went deep in thought.
Shinra then leaned over and whispered, "Your being really obvious on how you feel, but I would slow it down. Your making her uncomfortable. Remember, some strangers were just doing the same thing and tried to kill her." It took me a minute to process what he said. " Hey look I'm-" I turned to Emerald but didn't get to finish because she jumped out the carriage window. Gracefully? Yes. Beautifully? Absolutely. Horrifyingly? You have no idea. "Emerald!" I shouted, attempting to grab her. I missed. " See you later Shizu-chan!! Or not~!" She laughed as she ran. It looked painful, but she managed to run with grace. " She has a strong will, and strong endurance. Although, with how this is going she's going to hurt herself worse... You know, she kinda reminds me of Izaya." Shinra sighed behind me as I ran out the carriage door. "Don't even talk about that stupid louse!" I yelled behind me as I gave chase. I followed her scent. It was familiar, but I couldn't quite remember why. I found her, sitting on the ground with her head tilted back on an ally wall. She was rubbing a very obviously swollen ankle. She pouted. " Stupid Shizu-chan. This is all your fault you big oaf." It looked adorable. I had paused as soon as she started talking. Then her head suddenly snapped in my direction. Before I knew it she was up on her feet. "Leave me alone." She said defensively. She looked ready to run, but she was still using the wall for support. " I just want to help, and apologize. Please don't run." I said as I put my hands up. I slowly started walking towards her. She took a step back every few I took. She seemed shocked at first, and seemed to be fighting an internal battle. " Why do you want to apologise to me. I don't need your help." She stated. Still on the defensive. It shocked me. She was just fine with me. What made her so skiddish? I don't think I did anything.... "Can you not understand human speech?! Quit looking at me like that! I'm not fragile!" Emerald threw her hands up in frustration. However, in doing so she let go of her support. "Gaaa!" She ground out as she lost her balance. I dove on instinct. I managed to catch her, but we both ended up tumbling down some stairs. In the process I heard something snap. Emerald howled in pain. I pulled her closer in an attempt to shield her from anymore injuries, but suddenly we stopped. Confused I opened my eyes, or tried to. I didn't close them. "I didn't think you'd fall with her." Shinra. Suddenly I could see. Celty had brought Emerald and I up over the stairs onto solid ground. "Thank you Celty. Shinra, I heard something snap.." I trailed off looking down at Emeralds shaking form. She was clutching my shirt, curled up in my arms. It would've been cute had she not been shaking. " Stretch out your leg." Shinra ordered. I looked up to see him in serious doctor mode. Emerald gingerly stretched out her leg. Shinra inspected it for a few seconds before he spoke." It looks like a clean break, which it good....Celty dear, could you make a sound proof barrier for Emerald and I to discuss some things." I didn't like the way he said her name. "Can you stand?" I asked as sweetly as I could, looking down at her. " Of-of course I can. Standing is easy, but you have to put me down first." She huffed. It was nice. She wasn't injured enough to destroy her tough guy act. I wonder if Izaya's ever like this? This vulnerable and proud... " Ow! You stupid protozoan! I said put me down, not squeeze me to death!" I was shaken out if my thoughts by Emerald. I nearly dropped her in my surprise. She glared at me. " Sorry, sorry. I was thinking about a pest. Here you go." I apologized as I slowly put her down. "Let's just get this done. I have stuff to do. Preferably before you kill me. Suffocating is definitely not the way I want to go." She grumbled. I felt bad. What happens if I loose my strength? I could hurt her, or even.... I don't want to think about it. " Don't worry Shizuo, I'll get her back to you in a few minutes. I just have a few... concerns. Life threatening, in fact. If left unchecked." I felt a punch to the gut at his words. Life threatening. Because of me. I blinked as I realized words were in front of my face. I'm sure Shinras just over reacting. She didn't seem like she was in a lot of pain. Her ankle wasn't really your fault either. You were just trying to help. I think she understands that. Celty was trying to comfort me. I sighed. Suddenly noticing Emerald and Shinra were in a sphere of darkness. " I know, it's just that..... I don't know. She's different. She's strong and-and I don't know..." I trailer off. How do I express this feeling? I just met her and yet, I feel like I've known her for my whole life. Like she'll be there my whole life. Even if I lose control, if I see red. I know she'll be fine. She'll stay by my side. It's all I've ever wanted. All I could ever wish for. I tilted my head back, reaching for a cigarette to calm my thoughts. How can I make her stay? How can I ask her to let me help her? How can I get her to give me a chance? I sighed as I inhaled the sweet nicotine. "So help me God Shizu-chan! If you don't put that out right now, I will take it and shove it where the sun don't shine. What part of smoking is bad for you, do you not understand! You know what!! You can go and die somewhere!!!! Ungrateful brute!" Emerald walked out of the black sphere looking like she had fought a wild animal. Her hair was messed up, and she wore a deep frown. Whatever it was they talked about, it clearly upset her. "Hey! I wasn't done talking to you! Iz- Emerald! Please!" Shinra tried to grab her shoulder, but she dodged it. Her ankle now wrapped with a splint. "I already told you all I can. Now, I need to go. It's your job now to make sure the protozoan doesn't die. And next time he decides to get lynched, I'm not helping. Help you once the fool is you, help you twice the fool is me, and thrice leads to the rule of three. Which, I am not going to do. See ya later Shizu-chan!" She waved as she half ran, half limped off down the alleyway. I started after her when an arm stretched out in front of me. " Leave her alone Shizuo. You don't want to get involved. It could be bad for you both. She's keeping something important from you. Leave her alone." Shinra warned me. I stared at him for a second. Then made up my mind. No matter what it was, who she was, I would be there for her. If she wanted to tell me, she would. I can wait for her. I looked at Shira and ran after her.  If she could bear my strength, I could bear her pain and her secrets.
