(Sam's POV)

The new school was pretty intimidating, and all the crowded halls didn't make it any more welcoming for Sam. After all, he preferred reading to talking any day. And he didn't like big crowds.

Sam kept his head down as he walked into his first class - English. Thankfully, there were a few empty seats in the back, as usual. Sam loved learning and was extremely smart (he was a perfect grade A student), but he didn't like sitting in the front of a classroom.

Sam sat down in the back, right next to this girl, Jessica. He'd decided a couple weeks ago that he really liked her, but it seemed he was stuck in the friend zone. Shocker.

"Hi, Sam!" She smiled and twirled her beautiful, blonde hair a little.

"Hey, Jess." He grinned nervously at her, but couldn't take his eyes off her hair-twirling. Why do girls even do that? But, I mean, I guess it is pretty cute. Sam sighed. He really needed to ask Dean for more advice on girls.

Jessica giggled and snapped her fingers in his face. "Saaaaaam! Hellooo? What are you thinking about?"

Sam blushed, realizing he had been staring. "Oh, nothing."

"Uh huh. Suuureee-"

"Hey, moose, do you mind if I sit here?" A voice from behind Sam asked.

Sam turned around to see a freshman boy, who he didn't recognize, gesturing to the seat next to him.

"Oh, yeah, sure." Sam smiled at the boy. "Are you new here? I haven't seen you before."

"Yeah, my brother and I just moved here." He plopped down in his chair. "Lollipop?" He offered Sam a blue raspberry flavored one. Sam shook his head and Gabriel shrugged, shoving the second lollipop in his mouth and sucking on it.

"My name is Sam." He said with a smile, completely forgetting about Jess. There just was something about this boy... He was very intriguing.

"They call me Gabriel. Pleased to meet ya, Sammy!" The boy, Gabriel, grinned and held out his hand.

"Uh, it's just Sam." Sam took his hand and shook it, holding on for probably a couple seconds too long. Why did I do that?

(Castiel's POV)

The first half of the school day had gone surprisingly well for Cas. He hadn't encountered any bullies yet, and the classes were easy enough. No one had really noticed him. He really hadn't spoken to anyone since he got to the school, except for a few teachers. Gabe never has problems making friends.

Castiel was sitting outside, by himself, eating his lunch. He was used to being by himself; everywhere he went, no one would talk to him. Not that he minded. But sometimes, he experienced loneliness, though he would never admit it.

"Hey there, name's Dean." Cas looked up, startled, to find a boy staring down at him. A handsome smile lit up the boy's face, and Cas almost immediately noticed his beautiful, was that the right word?, green eyes. Castiel couldn't take his eyes off of them, as the boy sat down next to him in the grass. He kept intensely staring into Dean's eyes and slowly tilted his head to the side.

"My name is Castiel," he said quietly, finally remembering to speak.

"That's a pretty name," remarked Dean. He was still smiling.

Why is he looking at me that way? Why is he even talking to me?

"Thank you...may I ask why you are talking to me?" Cas stared into those eyes.

Dean laughed, the sound was golden, and Castiel's stomach fluttered.

"I just thought you looked, I don't know, kinda lonely? I figured I'd talk to you." He looked a little embarrassed.

"Thank you." Castiel replied, "I'm new to this school, and you're the first person to actually talk to me. You know, besides a teacher."

"You're kidding. Face like yours?" Dean smirked and Castiel turned away, cheeks bright red. "Well, I guess that makes me kinda special, huh?"

Castiel rolled his eyes and giggled (I actually giggled - what was I thinking?), looking back at Dean.

"Well, I'll see you around." Dean stood up slowly and strolled back over to the school, leaving Castiel in stunned silence.

Castiel cleared his throat, "Yeah, see ya," he lamely called after the beautiful boy.

Man, he is...something. Thought Castiel, sighing dreamily. Shut up, Castiel! Don't you think like that. He's obviously as straight as a line and he probably has girls hanging all over him!

All Castiel could think about for the rest of the day was the mystery in his heart, and that was Dean.
