[PART ONE OF THREE]

(coffee shop/bookstore AU)

"Alexander Lightwood?"

A boy with mussed black hair looks up, astonishing blue eyes piercing into the man that spoke his name.

He's gorgeous, is the first thought that comes to Magnus' mind. Tall, muscular but still the slightest bit scrawny, scars and lines the color of his hair dancing across his milky skin in beautiful patterns that make him look even more pale than he really was. A short sleeved black t-shirt covers his narrow chest and dark torn jeans clad his legs. Those damn long legs. Magnus had always had a thing for long, strong legs.

Those limbs carried him swiftly and surely across the shop, head ducked low so that all to be seen was the messy black mop on his head, he trying to go unnoticed. What a shame, Magnus thinks. Those eyes staring at the ground, when they could be shared with everyone and everything. When they could be experiencing so much, but are wasted on the ground.

Magnus is sent into a state of shock when those eyes meet his again, now close. He studies them intently. It's like they're constantly changing, a swirling ocean, tides rolling in and out, an angry sea to a calm and peaceful one in moments...

Alexander clears his throat, cutting his stare from Magnus' and casting it far away over his shoulder.

The customer looks uncomfortable, hands fidgeting in his pants pockets. Magnus finds it adorable and decides to turn on the charm.

"So," he starts, handing the book over to the boy who was on the hold list for it. "Come here often?"

The boy fidgeted some more, eyes flashing something...nervous? Scandalized? Fla--yes, definitely flattered. "Um, that depends on what you mean," he blushed.

Ooh, so he's that kind of boy, Magnus thinks, grinning at the inundo.

"Want to get some coffee, Alexander?" the sparkly boy ventured, grinning.

Alexander blushed deeper. "It's just Alec."

Magnus waved him off. "If no one calls you Alexander, I want to be the one to. But only if that's a yes...?" He let the question hang in the air.

The dark boy dug his hands deeper into his pockets and shrugged. "Sure. When?"

"Now." Magnus hopped the counter with grace and stood in front of a startled looking Lightwood, taking his hand and dragging him out of the small shop.

"But--don't you have w-work?" Alec stuttered astonished at how forward the clerk was.

"Silly, silly boy! You caught me just at the end of my shift! I'd say it's fate." He winked, and Alec blushed.
