Chapter 1

The door was slammed open with a bang. A big, dark creature was standing outside the door, a silhouette against the evening sky. I stood frozen in shock, staring at the black thing with wide eyes. As the creature slowly started to walk towards me, I felt an ice cold fear creep slowly up my legs and tightening around my heart, making it beat loud and fast like it was trying to break my ribs from the inside.

When the dark thing was only two meters from me, I realized what it was. The fire in the oven lit up a head covered with shaggy and dark fur and made flames dance in its deep and golden eyes.  The wolf bared its white and pointy teeth, looking almost like it was smiling. Then it met my gaze, and suddenly I felt like I was set on fire. The feeling started in my eyes, making tears stream down my face, and then spread down my entire body. I fell to my knees with my hand covering my eyes, and tried to make sense of what was happening. Why did I feel like someone was pouring liquid fire in my eyes, making it stream down my throat and into my heart, and then pumping the fire all around in my body together with my blood?

My body felt like it was burning brighter and brighter, and it was almost unbearable. I tried to open my eyes, but my vision was blurred from the tears and I saw the word trough a golden film.  I thought I could see the wolf, still standing over me with its burning eyes locked at mine. Then the world turned black, and I was swallowed by unconsciousness.

My entire body hurt. I was no longer burning, but my joint felt stiff and aching and every movement with my eyes made red-hot pain shot through them. I knew that opening them would hurt even more, but I had to know what had happened.

I was right; the moment I tried to squint carefully out between my eyelids, the little light that was let in felt sharp and painful. Blinking like crazy, I finally managed to open my eyes enough to see where I was. I noticed at once that something was very, very wrong.

I was still in the same room as before. Over me was the well-known ceiling of our living room.  The problem was that the ceiling was much closer than it was supposed to be, like I was floating mid-air in the room. But I could feel the floor beneath me, so that was not it. When I turned my head, the old armchairs and the oven looked strange and... small. My eyes wandered around in the room, coming to a halt at the person lying on the floor some meters from me. A unconscious girl with flowing red hair, dressed in wool and furs and with tears drying on her cheeks. Me.
