2 - Soulmarks
Soulmarks.
Those weird little birthmarks people get when they're born. Black on one person and white on that person's soulmate or vice versa. When touching for the first time, both marks turn into a beautiful ray of colours.
Everyone had a soulmark. There had never been an exception, ever. But having a soulmark didn't mean everyone got to meet their soulmate. Some searched their whole lives for their soulmate, only to end up in a lonely house, while others found their soulmates by pure coincidence. There were a lot of people who didn't believe in the idea of having a destined soulmate, so they went on and married a random person. There had been a lot of cases where somebody finally found their soulmate, but had already started an own family, not thinking he or she would find their one special person.
It involved a lot of heartbreak, something Vanya experienced in her life all too often. It was a fucked-up system. At least, that's what she thought of it.
Being an exception on the one rule about soulmarks, Vanya was the only person ever—that she knew of—who didn't have a mark. Years she had spent on trying to find it, only to come up empty-handed. The universe had made clear she was destined to be alone forever.
She had asked her mother if maybe she could find her mark, but even she had said she hadn't seen any when she was born.
The only people who knew about her missing soulmark were her mother, her brothers; Klaus and Ben, and so what her entire village back in Alaska. She was glad when her mother told them they were moving, she had approximately no friends back home (except Klaus and Ben, but that didn't count as they were family) and people used to bully her for her lack of soulmark.
Five was a whole other story. His father never married his soulmate, and he didn't have a happy marriage. That's the reason he was so hellbent on finding his own soulmate.
He didn't know who they were, but he knew for sure that they loved music. That much was sure given the white music note he had behind his ear. He made sure to cut his sides short so everyone could see his mark. He couldn't wait till the day he got to meet his soulmate.

The first week in this new school was finally coming to an end for Vanya. She had quickly learned who most of the popular kids were and how to avoid them.
She wasn't the type of person who liked to stand out...at all. She was the black sheep of her family. Her mom was Grace Green, a model and fashion designer, her brother Klaus loved theatre and signed up on his first day and Ben was just a genuine nice guy who was friends with literally everyone he met.
She was tempted to choose music club but hadn't signed up yet. If she did, she had to choose one instrument to play, and she really adored playing violin and piano. Although, piano was definitely her favourite out of the two.
Music had always been a part of her life because of her father. He had played in a band and owned his own music studio. Him and Vanya used to sing songs and play music there all the time. So, when he died, playing music was the one thing that made her feel as if he was still there, singing along with her.
In her previous school, she hadn't let anyone know about her talents, but new school, new Vanya. Besides, this was her senior year, who cares what others thought about her, she would probably never see them again after that year.
