Mikey's Nightmare

Nobody's POV

It was a quiet night in the lair, all four turtle tots were sound asleep in their beds all snug and warm.

Oh, If only that was true.

6 year old Leo was trying his very best to get comfortable in his bed. Something was bothering him, he had this feeling that something bad was going to happen. Leo sat upright in his bed and sighed, his big brother instincts kicking in.

Leo, as quietly as he could, snuck out of his bedroom and made his way over to his immediate younger brothers room. Raphael. Leo opened the door slightly with a loud creak. He winced and looked towards his red banded brother, he was sound asleep and snoring loudly. His head underneath his pillow. Thank goodness Raph was a heavy sleeper. Leo shook his head and tip toed to his second younger brothers room, Donatello.

He peaked inside and smiled. Donnie was laying on his bed flat on his shell, one hand over his plastron and one hanging off the bed. He could see a small string of drool dripping from his mouth. Leo shook his head and shut the door. He looked down the hall towards his last brothers room, his youngest brother. Michelangelo.

Leo slowly made his way towards Mikey's room, but as he got closer he could hear quiet sobs coming from his younger brothers room, indicating the tot didn't want to wake anyone. This raised concern in Leo as he quickly but quietly reached Mikey's room. When he opened the door his eyes widened at what he saw. There was little Mikey, sitting upright in his bed. He was sitting cross-legged, his head in his hands. Leo had realized that Mikey didn't notice him come inside.

"Mikey?" Leo asked gently, Mikey jumped at the sound of his voice and quickly wiped away his tears with the back of his hand and gave his brother a forced grin. Leo frowned at this and walked over to sit next to him on the bed.

"Mikey, what's wrong?" If Mikey thought he was getting out of this one, he was dead wrong. Mikey looked at his feet and frowned, realizing it was useless to convince Leo otherwise. Leo grabbed Mikey's chin and made it so they were making eye contact. He gasped when he saw Mikey's eyes were bloodshot and his mask and freckled cheeks were stained with tears. He immediately pulled him into a hug. Little Mikey was startled at the action at first, but soon gave in and returned the hug.

"Why are you sad Mikey?" Leo pulled away from the hug to look at his youngest brother, he stayed completely silent. He gave his brother a few minutes and he finally spoke up.

"Nightmare.." Mikey said, his voice was quiet and raspy from crying. It didn't sound like Mikey at all. Leo didn't like when his brother was sad. He was supposed to be the joyful, happy-go-lucky little brother they all knew and loved. Mikey let out a sob and curled into his older brother, Leo wrapped his arms around him protectively.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Leo was nervous at what he was going to hear from his younger brother, he didn't know what went on in that head of his fragile baby brother. Mikey shook his head, indicating he didn't want to relive that nightmare he had woken up in a cold sweat from. Leo gave him a sympathetic look and shifted to get comfortable. Mikey was in his lap now, his arms still wrapped around his brother.

"But Mikey, maybe it will make you feel better? Father always says it's bad to keep your emotions to yourself.." Leo said, quoting his Sensei's words. Mikey looked up at Leo with big baby blue eyes, sparkling with tears.

"O-ok.." Mikey caved in to his older brother. "It w-was weally dark.. and I was awone.." at any other time Leo would've laughed at his brothers incorrect pronunciation of words, he was the only one out of the four that still had trouble with that, but now wasn't the time. He held him tighter for reassurance to continue.

"I twied to find you guys.. b-but you weren't anywhere! ... and then I saw this light, and I w-walked cwoser to it." Mikey was starting to shake in Leo's arms, and he had a feeling whatever happened next had scared his brother badly.

"And w-when I got there.. y-you guys were all waying on the gwound! And there w-was blood! It w-was e-everywhere! You guys w-were d-dead!" At this point Mikey was breaking down and Leo wondered how someone so innocent and so young could have such a horrific dream. Leo was almost in tears himself. He was about to say something comforting to calm his brother down, when he was suddenly cut off by Mikey continuing with his nightmare. There was more?

"I-I tried to wake you guys up.. b-but you wouldn't! A-and then I saw d-dad! He was a-a few f-feet a-away and he.. he was dead too!" Mikey was in full blown hysterics, shaking uncontrollably and clutching onto his brother like his life depended on it. Leo didn't know what to do, he was panicking.

"Mikey! Mikey listen to me!" Leo held his brother by the shoulders staring him straight in the eyes. Mikey's eyes were wide and unfocused, he was having trouble getting enough air into his lungs.

"Mikey! Breathe!" Leo demanded, he needed his brother to listen to him! Mikey struggled to catch his breath as he inhaled and exhaled quickly. After a while his breathing began to slow and he was becoming dizzy from lack of oxygen. Leo held him tight, tears streaming down his leaf green toddler face. Mikey had fallen asleep quite quickly in his arms and Leo sighed in relief.

Just then, the door opened wide and revealed a toddler-sized Donatello and Raphael. Their faces were etched with worry, they had been woken from their slumber by Leo's screams and Mikey's crying. Leo put his finger to his mouth signaling them to be quiet as he pointed to the orange banded turtle asleep in his arms. The two younger brothers had looks of confusion on their faces, not knowing what had just happened.

"Awone..." Mikey mumbled in his sleep and whimpered. Leo squeezed him tighter.

"No Mikey, you aren't alone. Never." Little Leo said in reassurance and looked towards his two other younger brothers, making a silent promise to never leave their youngest brother alone.
