"so what's the diagnosis, doctor?"
it's wrong, probably, how much pleasure david was getting from just watching her with a bottle of beer in her hand, her head tipped up so she can watch airplanes cut through the sky. she's awfully quiet and he was too at first, but now that he's looking at her he can't really help but open his mouth and speak.
she glances over her shoulder at him, his words drawing her out of her thoughts. she squints her eyes and flicks up her middle finger at him, a giggle drawn from her lips. "i'm a nursing student, dave. stop fetishizing my future career."
"a hot nursing student," david corrects, spreading his legs out. she's sitting all the way across the patio from him, her legs slung over the arm of a patio chair as she holds onto a bottle of beer, her head tipped back. he's sitting in a chair of his own near the wall, a smirk on his lips. "come sit with me?"
she shakes her head, a little smile playing on her lips. "mm," she hums, lifting the bottle to her mouth and taking a long sip. she lowers the bottle and sets it down on the patio table, wiping at her lips with the back of her hand. her lipgloss is a little smudged and david can't help but think that he wants to kiss the rest of it off. "no."
david pouts out his bottom lip, throws his head back and lets out a little groan that has her laughing softly, her fingernails tracing over the wicker of the patio chair. the sun has begun to set and that's the whole reason why the two of them are sitting where they are. she's always liked to watch the sunset, especially from the comfort of david's home.
"rory," he hums, drawing her gaze over to meet his. "c'mere." he motions her over with two fingers and yet she remains in her seat, an amused look on her face. she brings a hand up to brush her hair out of her eyes and leans back in her chair, turning her face to look at the setting sun. "aurora."
"pretty, isn't it?" she asks, completely ignoring his pleas as her hand creeps over onto the table beside her to pick up her bottle of beer, taking another long sip. she's unsure how long all of this will last--her and david. it started out of the blue and she's yet to determine whether or not they'll actually be able to go anywhere relationship wise, but they're both having a very good time and so she thinks that maybe, just maybe they'll figure something out.
he thinks that she's the prettiest girl he's ever seen and that it'd be a damn shame to let her go. not that he has any plans of letting her go, because although they've only been on a few dates, he's nearly one hundred percent certain that he never wants to have to go on a first date again.
"it is," david says, reaching for his own bottle of beer. he rarely drinks, especially not when in the company of someone he's trying to impress--say, a very pretty girl much like the one sitting a meter away--but she's impossibly close to him and yet not close enough, and so he thinks that maybe drinking is just what he needs. "you're prettier, though."
a little smile plays on her lips, her dark eyes flickering over to meet his. she bites down on her bottom lip and looks away, letting out a soft, careful laugh. she keeps her gaze away from his for a moment before allowing it to return, their eyes locked. "you're sweet, david." she takes a sip from her bottle, letting the bottom of the bottle touch her collarbone. the glass is cool against her skin, especially as a bead of condensation rolls down from the glass of the bottle to drop onto her skin, trickling along the length of her arm.
