Arina's eyes blinked trying to reason about her situation. She was now sitting on the floor confused. In front of her was the trail of blood she had once left. Beside her was Death checking on a black phone ever once in a while. He whispered multiple 'no's trying to convince himself this wasn't hapenning.
"Is this normal?" The question poured from her trembling mouth. He sighed and shook his head. He affixated his eyes on the brunette. He felt a knot in his stomach just to think what had happened. What huge horror was about to haunt his existence.
"This only happens once in a reaper's existence..." He placed his index finger and thumb on his nose bridge trying to analyze it all. The words on the mobile's screen were clear.
If after being touched by death the individual lives on...that one being is meant to be that repears companion, foor eternity.
He looked at the last word with horror. Eternity...that was way too long. He shut the phone and turned to face the brunette with a straight face. She was terrified. Her eyes were wide and in shock. She had felt how she passed to the other life, how her soul was draining off her body. But she was alive, she could breath. She turned her face to him with an expression that asked him for answers. Instead he sighed and turned away. "Follow me." He said coldly. Inmediately, Arina recognized something was wrong, terribly wrong. There was no way for him to want her near his presence. She looked back to the floor in thought. There was only one way out.
"No..." She replied standing up. He turned his head and glared at her from the corner of his eye.
"You have to follow me." He insisted. Arina glared back and straightened herself.
"Never!" She ran off as fast as she could on the opposite way from him. Without thinking it twice Death chased her. He knew he couldn't leave her alone. She ran at lightning speed not looking back. She could hear his raspy voice calling her name over and over, but she ignored him. She turned the corner until she found an open door. Arina rushed to her escape. All she had to do was go out the door and race until she found the city lights. But when she crossed the door, she didn't find the woods. The brunette fell face down on charcoal tiles. She gasped for air after running. What? She looked around. She wasn't in the house anymore. It was a room with black flooring matching the walls. A red rug extended from the closed ebony door to an equally ebony desk at the end of the room. The large windows around the room indicated it was late at night. It was as if she had transported somewhere else.
"I told you to follow me." A chill went down her spine acknowledging the voice. Death stood in front of her frowning at the girl's disobedience.
"Where am I?" She asked in a barely audible tone.
"Your new home. You pretty much transported yourself here. Get used to it Arina girl." She blinked trying to analyze his words. New home?
"What do you mean?" She asked now annoying the black haired one. He sighed in desperation and avoided the need to face palm. Less than 24 hours together an he wants to kill her already...again. He wasn't willing to listen her intolerable questions. So he let it out flat and simple.
"Arina...you're an undead and now we are stuck together for infinity." She glared at him expecting for the irksome being to crack a laugh and tell her he was joking. But he kept a disgruntled face making her expression turn into a horrified one.
"Are you serious?" He nodded in response. "Infinity?! Where did you get that from?!" She asked now getting up to face him.
"Don't think I'm too pleased with this deal either." He spat turning her back on her. "But it is clearly stated in the rules. You and me forever." He shuddered just by the sound of the infamous word. How cruel could this be? Hating someone with a burning passion since they were practically born and then when you finally get rid of them being doomed to be together for the rest of eternity. She looked at him expecting it was a lie...that this was some sort of nightmare and that she'd wake up in any moment. But it was the twisted reality. She pinched her arm in different places several times. Death raised an ebony eyebrow and rolled his eyes. "How did this happen?" She asked still not understanding it.
"You were elected since you were just a newborn to be a reapers companion. This means that even if your time of death was already set, you weren't affected by it. It's as if you are an immortal." Silence invaded the room. Arina felt speaking seemed far too violent by now. She gave him a long stare and then turned to the door. "What are you doing now?"
"I'm going home." He couldn't believe she was really that stupid.
"You can't."
"Why not?!" She barked with anger. All she wanted was go back to her parents and pretend this never happened.
"Close relationships with the living are completely forbidden. You can spend a day or two with them, talk by phone also. But if you spend way too long time close to them, their death dates will be hustled." She narrowed her eyes studying his words. That explained alot. Death has chased her since a while now, leading to her sudden 'death' at the early age of barely nineteen. "I'm not doing this." She said making her final decision according to her. "You have to. If you don't I'm in trouble and you will stop existing."
"Since when do you care for my sake?!"
"Oh believe me I don't. I'm watching out for my ass."
"Why would I trust you anyways?" She intensified her glare and clenched her teeth. Both of them were now nose to nose. "All you have done is make my life a complete misery." Death shared a smug smirk with her and let out an annoyed breath. She was getting on his nerves more than usual. But he had to convince her at any means for...many reasons.
"Because if you help me I can bring back your sister." Her golden eyes widened in surprised at the juicy offer. He knew exactly what she wanted the most. Her older sister. The girl gulped saying she didn't believe him. "I actually can bring people back. Of course I can only bring ONE. Not with the same life, memories or as you remembered them...but that I can, I can." She blinked at him in mistrust. The hateful guy extended his hand expecting her to shake it as a sign of confirmation. She knew he wasn't to be trusted. She knew from the start this wasn't a good idea. But she couldn't afford pride if it was Korlene's life on the line. And as a typical human...Her wants won over her principles.
"Agreed." She shook his hand marking a deal. Not knowing what she had really got herself into
