"Is there any way to repair it?" Peter asked, trying to be optimistic. He seemed to have transcended to a new level of annoyance.
"Not in the time we have left," I told him. "The other four generators are going to have to try and make up for it." I zoomed out my satellite feed and watched as the emergency protocols activated. Emergency power lines surged the other four generators, but the barrier was still spotty. Patches were vulnerable and faded in and out inconsistently.
"Huh. You didn't design this did you?"
"No, it has been here for over one hundred years," I recounted, remembering the multiple times Father would not allow me to work on them. "There's nothing that can be done, though. Besides, the planes are getting closer. We need to hurry."
From the sky, I watched Peter take off back towards my lab. "Did you make any progress on that suit?"
I looked up at the projector, where I was making adjustments to the design. "Some. This is going to have to be a long-term project, I can't do everything I would want to at the moment."
"As long as it works, because we're going to need it. At least we're not fighting cyborgs again." He decided. "I'm probably about five minutes out. Is there a plan yet? Has your brother said anything?"
"He called in SHIELD fighters for backup," I explained. "They are trapping the HYDRA vessels in northern Wakanda, away from all settlements. The other ships from Stockholm are going to get through to the city, before the fighting is supposed to start."
He sighed into the microphone. "I hope SHIELD is ready. They're basically going up again evil Wakanda, except slightly less impressive. I just don't know how their ships are going to hold up."
I had thought about that as well. Depending on how the ships from the other outreach centers were weaponized, the forces SHIELD was sending would either help, or be destroyed. I was hoping for the former, for everyone's sake. "It was not our call to make. If T'Challa asked them to come, it was for a reason."
"So what are we going to do?"
"I thought you were going to make a plan."
"Okay..." he submitted, probably thinking. "How finished is your suit? I know, I know you're still working on it, but will it work for now?"
I altered the angle of the ears on the helmet. "I suppose. It has the necessities."
"And we still have that ship, the one with the autopilot and the stealth mode?"
"It is right where we left it. What are you thinking?"
He grunted, probably as he was jumping. "Well, HYDRA is ambushing that ship from Stockholm, and SHIELD is ambushing HYDRA. We don't know how that's going to turn out, but once people start firing, we can see where we're needed. I don't want to plan anything too big, since this is the King's plan first."
I saved the design and loaded it to the suit so it could update. "So we are backup?"
"Yep. We're backup to the backup. For now."
"I'm starting to question your plan-making skills."
He laughed. "You should have thought of that earlier. It's too late now."
I raised an eyebrow. "Is it though? You are in my country, you know. I could order you to do whatever I wanted."
"Do it. You won't."
"I won't hesitate."
"Bet."
I covered up my mouth to keep him from hearing me giggle. Finally, someone who could keep up with me!
"I'm outside the lab, are you ready to go?"
I composed myself before answering. "Yes, I'll meet you on the ship."
"Good, it's time to take out HYDRA."
