I waited patiently for a sound. Even the slightest noise. But as time went by, everything stayed silent.
I felt a sinking feeling in my chest.
I hoped to get answers from Vamp, but maybe it was for the best that I didn't hear him. Just as I decided to head back to the den, I heard something. A quiet chirping sound.
But not quite from a bird, it sounded different. Like a mix between a meow and a chirp perhaps?

I looked up into the trees where the sound seemed to come from. I heard the sound again, but further away this time, whatever was making that sound was leaving!
I quickly ran to the tree looking for the source of the sound. The chirping sound came from the next tree now so I ran to that one and stopped in front of it, looking up.

The sound was heard again from the next tree and I ran to it but before I could stop it moved to the next, every time I thought I reached it, it moved the the next tree.
I found myself running after the chirping sound, looking up at the trees so I might see it.
I didn't even know what it was, but I hoped it was somehow Vamp, and if it wasn't which was more likely, at least I'd ease my curiosity of what that was.

I kept my eyes on the trees, until I tripped on a root, and went tumbling to the ground. Pain shot up my twisted paw, and I scrunched my face in pain as I got up. I looked around, the chirping had stopped.
I looked around at the dark forest.
I didn't quite know where I was anymore. I sighed and kept walking the direction the chirping seemed to be heading. I walked for a few minutes unsure if I was going the right way. But at last, the chirping was heard again. I quickly snapped my head up towards the trees.

The sound once again began to leave and I ran after it. I don't how long I had been running, but thankfully it was still dark.
The warm wind brushed my fur as I ran. It was the last month of summer and I was sure I'd miss the heat.
It was often cold at night even in summer though, but by sunrise the sun would've warmed you up again.
In Autumn I guessed there wouldn't be any warm sun. I had never actually experienced an Autumn before, and I was only two months old on the last month of winter.
I'd miss the warmth of the sunlight, next time I'd be able to experience another summer I'd be one and a half years old, which I didn't even know if I'd live that long. Though people always say cats have nine lives, I was sure that was a myth because if it wasn't I had already lost all nine.

The chirping stopped and I looked up into the trees where I last heard it.
I estimated I was running for a few hours now, or maybe just two. I walked up to the trunk of the tree and jumped onto it, climbing about half way up in a few seconds.
I stopped as I saw a figure in the tree. Black as night, eyes as yellow as the sun, the only thing I could make out from the dark figure besides its eyes, was the white fur across its eye.
"Vamp" I said with no emotion.
"BlueWhiskers" Vamp said, with even less emotion. I wasn't sure if I ever gave him my name, but I wasn't surprised he found out.

"Why did you lead me here?" I asked. "I know you need answers and advice and I can give you both of them." Vamp said.
"How do I know I can trust you?" I growled. "Do you have a choice."
Vamp said simply, it wasn't really a question.

"I believe you have been to the tunnel." Vamp said. I nodded.
"You should go back."
I shook my head quickly,
"What are you trying to get me killed? You wish I'd go back to that death trap." I growled.
"I can lead you through it." He said.
"Yeah as if I trust you with my life,
And besides what's the point in going back in, I already went through it." I growled. He obviously thought I was a gullible, dumb little kitten.

"There are other ways through the tunnel, and other important things you didn't see in there." Vamp said. He had no emotion whatsoever in his face or voice.
"You mean the ways that will get me trapped and never be able to leave again?" I growled.
"Like I said, there are other ways through it. If you know your way around it." He said.
"And I don't. " I said simply.
"But I do." Vamp said.
I growled at him, "and how would you find that out?"

"Because I too wandered in there, I was looking for answers, so I went in there, I didn't know it was an unbeatable maze... Not until I read it on the walls. I was lost, and I stayed lost for an entire year, before I found my way out. Now I remember every corner of the tunnel like the back of my paw." Vamp said.
I couldn't help but feel a bit bad, but than who said he wasn't lying anyways?
"Whoa, that really made me want to go back." I said sarcastically.
"If you want answers, that's the only way your going to get them." Vamp said. "Come." He said, hoping down the branches. "It could be dangerous out here at night, in the trees is half a problem." I said, hoping down the branches too. I landed on the soil after Vamp.
"You will be safe as long as I'm around." Vamp said.
"And I'm about the only person you should be around." He said and started walking, so I followed next to him, but left a cat sized gap.
I looked at my paws and huffed, "and why is that? Because you think I'm going to hurt someone? I've never hurt someone except from self-defense." I growled, recalling my dream I had of Vamp.

"You will. One day you will understand, just as I did, but does it have to get that far, just leave your uncle from now, don't go near anyone, or you will harm them one day, and you will recall this moment and wish you had listened to me." Vamp said. I didn't like how he spoke. As if he knew everything.

"I would never hurt anyone, and you don't know me enough to tell me what I'd do, I think I will be fine." I said with an edge to my tone.
"Being with your uncle isn't a good idea either, it makes you a bigger target." Vamp said, and I hesitated then went to the look up at him from my paws to ask him why, as I continued walking. But I stopped as I noticed he was gone. Vanished into nothing. I looked around for a few moments for him, but when I decided he wouldn't show up, I sighed and continued walking straight, hoping I'd reach my den if I did. When I had been following Vamp's voice, I was sure I was walking in a mostly straight line, but than it was kind of hard to tell.

After a few hours of running and occasionally walking, I saw the den in the distance. I sighed in instant relief as I saw it. It must've been midnight by now, and I couldn't wait to sleep and rest my paws.
I entered the borrow like den and collapsed in the corner. I was so exhausted and just wanted to close my eyes. But I wondered where uncle SmokeTail was. Maybe he was looking for me? I thought, guilt crawling up my chest.

"BlueWhiskers!" Uncles voice came from the entrance of the den.
I turned my head quickly to look at him. He had a mixture of emotions on his face and in his voice; Anger, relief and worry.
"I said to be back in the den by sunset not midnight!" He hissed.
"I've been wandering all over for you, don't tell me you went off to find that bird of yours!" He hissed angrily. "I-i'm sorry I just..." I started, I was lost for words, there wasn't much I could say, I had lied and I didn't know how to patch it up.

"What were you thinking?! You could've gotten us both killed!" He yelled, but even though he had been yelling, he was still somehow keeping his voice down.
"I'm sorry, I got curious and wandered off and didn't notice how late it was..." I wasn't really lying, more of playing with my words.

Uncle SmokeTail sighed in frustration but I could tell he was starting to cool down. "I definitely don't want this happening again, and if it does and we both live to see each other again, I'm going to give you rule number four, you can't go anywhere without me with you." SmokeTail said. I swallowed nervously. "My curiosity got the best of me. It won't happen again. I will try my best." I said.
"Just like your father when he was  kit, always getting yourself into trouble with curiosity of yours." SmokeTail rolled his eyes looked so much like StripeTail. They had so much in common, if only they could meet each other one day.

I snuggled up in my den with SmokeTail. I thought about all that Vamp had said. Why did I need to stay away from my uncle? Why would that make us a bigger target? I wondered.
I decided not to let Vamp get to me.
He could be lying. He probably wants to separate me from everyone so he can kill me or something. Who knows what's in his mind. Who knows what he wants from me. But even as I thought that, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach, that maybe he was right.
