Fire surrounded me. There's no way out. Sparks landed in my eyes making me hiss in pain. I watched as the once green trees shrivled and burned.
As my fur began to catch aflame, I saw two teal eyes watching me through the flames. The fire didn't effect them.
The eyes came closer until I could see a whole head in the flames. Pitch black with a mischievous grin, it was Wildfire.I snapped awake, my heart pounding in my chest. Wildfire... I thought as I recalled my dream. Wildfire isn't real. Everybody knows that... I thought, trying to comfort myself.
I stood up and padded to the exit of the den. I only just noticed it was raining. The water poured down from the sky, soaking the lush green grass and the remaining flowers. It was almost Autumn, in a few days perhaps. That also meant I'd be nine months old.
My birthday was on the first day of July you see.I shook my furry paw as water sprayed inside, trickling through my fur. I turned to sit at the back of the den, assuming Uncle SmokeTail and Blackhawk were already there. But to my surprise, Blackhawk was nowhere in the den. He can't possibly be outside in this weather! Maybe he went for a hunt before the rain started and now he's soaked, feeezing and probably struggling to get back in this rain! I thought. Panicking a little, I jumped out of the den, the outer layer of my brown fur soaked instantly, but the deeper layers remained dry. I walked forward slowly, my legs aching from the weight of my wet fur. I squinted as I looked around for Blackhawk. Then I spotted him, in a low branch of a tree. I couldn't help but smile as I looked at him. He had been forced to learn how to climb trees when me, him, Ra, Gentle, Better, Snicker, Backstab and Flower were travelling to The Peace Clan, and we had to sleep in trees to stay out of sight. Since he was sitting on a low branch I guessed he still couldn't really climb too high. He did normally sleep on lower branches than the rest of us when we were travelling to The Peace Clan.
I padded towards him slowly, then standing in the trees shelter, I shook my fur, water spraying everything. I hopped up the branches, finding it a little more difficult with the rain. That made me wonder how long it took Blackhawk to get here. I jumped onto the branch Blackhawk sat on. It was a very large branch and he could sit there comfortably, but with no extra room on the sides to move. I padded behind him, then deciding there was no room for me, I hopped onto a branch next to the one we were on. It was much thiner, but it was good size for me.
I settled down comfortably, before Blackhawk spoke. "Beautiful isn't it?" he asked, then added as I looked at him.
"the rain."
I looked out ahead of us, trying to see the beauty in the dark wet view that Blackhawk seemed to see. "Yeah... I guess." I said slowly. Nothing seemed positive about any of this. "I used the watch the rain all the time, it's so peaceful." he said then sighed. "I've missed Autumn for that reason. Every season is good for its own reasons, but I have to say, Autumn is one of my favourites." Blackhawk said, then smiled at me. "Let's go inside." he said, then jumped off the branch, splashing puddles of water into the air as he landed. I watched him enter the den, then I looked up at the sky. What beauty could be seen in this?I hopped down branches before I landed on the wet ground. I padded inside the den and shook myself off. Uncle SmokeTail slept in the back of the den, shuffling and groaning uncomfortably. Blackhawk lay at the entrance, looking out as it rained. I decided to sleep at the back with Uncle SmokeTail.
My mind wondered back to the night before. To The Peace Clan patrollers. I missed being in a Clan...🐱
We all sat outside the den, cleaning ourselves off from the water and mud that coated our fur. I licked my paw slowly, deep in thought. I thought about The Peace Clan, there were so many ups of being in a Clan. Not just that I'd know all the cats my parents grew up with, but there is safety in numbers, I'd be able to see the others kits again, like Better, Snicker, Gentle, Flower and Backstab. I smiled sadly as I thought of Backstab. We had been really close friends. Also, I could get my paw healed, learn to be a nurse cat, meet my other uncle and well, there were so many good things about a Clan. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like staying with Uncle SmokeTail, and he teaches me a lot of useful things. But I just think, I should be around someone my age and plus, living with Uncle SmokeTail told me that most days were all lessons and nothing really interesting or new happened. I sighed. He was like a father to me. But you can't live alone with a father and a friend triple your age. I need friends my age, and activity and new things every day. I mean, I could visit Uncle SmokeTail. All the time I could, like every week or more. I smiled as I thought of that. That'd be the perfect life. Well, if Pounce and StripeTail somehow appeared in The Peace Clan it would.
I sighed loudly, even though I tried to sigh under my breath. Blackhawk and Uncle SmokeTail looked up at me expectantly.
I made my decision. I stood up and turned to Blackhawk. "Sorry Blackhawk, but could you give us a moment." I asked and Blackhawk shrugged. "Whatever." he said, then stood up and padded away.
I turned to Uncle SmokeTail now and he watched me sadly.
"Hey Uncle, I love living with you and you've taught me a lot, and I will come to see you all the time. But I do think it'd be best for me if I moved to The Peace Clan. There would be cats my age, I could learn healing, they could heal my paw, I could learn all kinds of new things." I said and Uncle SmokeTail smiled softly."I understand, I wish I could join you, but it's probably for the best that you go. You learnt all you could from me, and after all, cats are adventurous animals, curious too, we can't stay in the same spot for long. Well, most of us." Uncle SmokeTail said, smiling.
I smiled at his positivity to the matter.
"Thanks for being so supportive." I said smiling widely. Uncle SmokeTail padded a few steps my way, before cat hugging me. I hugged him back, my chin on his furry shoulder. After a long time, we heard paw steps coming our way and ended the long hug. We turned to Blackhawk's curious face. This would be one of the hardest things I've done."Blackhawk..." I started nervously.
