I caught no sight of Kevin at the end of the day, instead, someone else approached me.
It was Sam from earlier today, which both felt like a breath of relief and a strange occurrence. Spending so much time with Kevin in only a couple days was starting to get to me, and I found myself acting more and more like him. More bitch face, a lot less open to conversation.
Still, I guess I wasn't fully there when Sam approached me, the same smile from earlier today,
"Hey, how did your day go? I know it's not your first but.." I chuckled, placing a notebook into the locker as his voice drifted off shyly,
"It went well, thank you for asking," I began, before raising an eyebrow. I didn't know him all that well, why was he suddenly interested? I closed my locker slowly, leaning on it, "What's up? Not to sound rude, it's just that we... just met this morning."
He scratched the back of his neck, blushing slightly,
"Yeah, I know. It's just, I thought you were cool, I wanted to ask for your number." I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, opening my mouth to say something when I was interrupted by a familiar cough.
I could feel a presence behind me as Sam's cheery face became a glare, and I didn't even have to turn to know Kevin was there. Still, I looked, seeing his normal glare intensified, directed right at Sam.
"Oh, hey Kevin," I said, rather awkwardly, barely taking his attention away from Sam as I adjusted my bag. His eyes flickered to me, a false smile spreading onto his face that I could clearly see through,
"Hello sweet cheeks, how's your conversation with this dork going?" He wrapped his arm over my shoulder casually, like it was some normal thing. I glared at him softly, opening my mouth to say something when Sam spoke up,
"You're one to talk, freak." My eyes went to Sam, knowing for sure that I wasn't going to let two teenage boys interrupt me,
"Hey, both of you! Relax," I said, nudging Kevin in the side before turning my gaze to Sam, "Do you know one another?"
Kevin spoke first, his cold eyes remaining on Sam,
"Of course, this school is smaller than a truck stop bathroom," I could feel the chuckle in Kevin's chest as he sneered, "You can smell the bullshit as soon as you step in." I could feel the double meaning in his words as he pulled me closer. This got Sam's attention, obviously, and I wanted to pull my hair out of my head.
"Maybe get your arm off her, and then we can talk about bullshit, Kevin." I sighed, realizing this was only heading in one direction. My gaze still went to Kevin first, who's eyes met mine and he smirked,
"Tell him, Cooper, how you don't give your number out to just anybody." There was a laugh from Sam, mocking Kevin's words,
"Maybe that's what she told you-" I could feel Kevin's jaw clenched and finally decided to speak up, grabbing his wrist and pulling his arm off of me,
"No, he's right. I'm sorry Sam, my phone plan might change soon so I don't want to give you a phone number at the wrong time." Finally he looked at me, his eyes glancing at how I was still holding Kevin's wrist as I sighed, "I have to go, I'll see you in class, thank you for asking."
I turned, dragging Kevin in tow as he turned and gave Sam the finger with his free hand. I jerked his arm, before letting it go as we headed out the entrance.
As the door slammed shut, I finally I had the chance to yell at him. So, I did,
"Why did you do that? I was just talking to him!" I shouted, loud enough to cause concern. Thankfully, we were alone. Kevin had a cocky smirk, eyeing me like it was funny that I was mad. He shrugged, running a hand through his hair as his expression became neutral,
