"D-did he hear us?!" Neil yelled at Nikki, fear planted on his face. Now he was really freaking out. Did Max hear us?! Of course he heard us, or he wouldn't be leaving!
"Uh- I'll go talk to him! See if he heard anything," the green-haired girl quickly told the tall boy, rushing out of the room. Neil stood in Nikki's room alone, freaking out because Max probably knew about his crush on him. Hopefully Nikki will talk to him and not spill more of my secret.
"Max! Wait!" Nikki yelled, practically running out of her house towards the raven-haired boy.
"What do you want? Why don't you just keep more fucking secrets from me with Neil?" The short boy replied coldly, his back facing the green-haired girl.
"Did you hear what the secret w-"
"No, I didn't! I wouldn't be calling it stupid ass secret if I knew what it was!" Max yelled, started to quickly walk away from the girl. Nikki sighed in relief as all of her muscles started to relax. She didn't realize she was holding her breath and tensing all her muscles until now. The turquoise-eyed boy stopped in his tracks and turned around to face Nikki.
"What is the secret, anyway?" He asked, starting to walk towards the magenta-eyed girl in an intimidating manner. Nikki gulped at his question.
"Um... I c-can't tell you," the short girl stuttered, walking backwards away from Max. The raven-haired boy started to walk faster towards the trembling girl, curious to what the secret was.
"Why not? We don't have to tell him you told me," Max suggested, smirking. Nikki was freaking out in her mind, but tried her best to keep a straight face.
"Please don't tell anyone the things we talked about at the park."
"No. You wouldn't understand unless I told you and I'm not," the green-haired girl declared sternly, stopping in her tracks. Max approached Nikki and gave her a glare. She returned the glare.
"When did Preston say we had to stop this shit?" Max asked, stuffing his hands in his red hoodie. Nikki shrugged at his question.
"I think either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," she replied, thankful that Max stopped interrogating her. Max sighed in relief, slightly slumping over.
"Thank God. It's getting tiring having to lie about being together," the raven-haired boy complained, smirking. A couple months ago, a peculiar, theater-loving boy had told them he would give both of them two-hundred dollars if they fake dated for some time.
"You said it."
...
...
"Well- uh... This is kinda awkward," Nikki blurted out, stating the obvious. Max rolled his eyes at Nikki but agreed with her conclusion. Then, the black-haired boy hatched an idea. He smirked and chuckled at it. The green-haired girl noticed his actions and raised an eyebrow.
"You know, Nikki, it would be a shame if Ered was somehow told that a girl with green hair liked her," Max mumbled, smirking his signature smug smile and casually looking at his black-painted nails. Nikki gasped and scoffed.
"You wouldn't-"
"I won't if you tell me what the hell Neil was about to say before I interrupted your guys' "top secret" conversation!" The short boy practically yelled, making Nikki furrow her eyebrows. She tried to say something but nothing came out as her mouth gasped open like a fish.
"You motherfucker!" She cursed, becoming angry because the turquoise-eyed boy finally bested her. Max chuckled evilly and stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"So? Spill already!" He laughed, secretly excited at what the secret was. Nikki sighed, knowing Neil would kill her if she told the boy his secret. But if Ered know that she liked her, then they wouldn't be friends anymore.
"Uh... I'll tell you this: someone l-likes you," she replied, stuttering because she anticipated Max asking her who it was.
"Who is it?" Max asked, cocking an eyebrow. Damn it. Nikki thought, contemplating if she should tell Max the truth or not.
"It's... N-Ne.. Nurf," she mumbled, visibly wincing at how the short boy gave her a look saying "bitch, you're lying!"
"Really? Nurf likes me?"He replied sarcastically, laughing at how ridiculous that sounded.
"Tell me the truth, Nikki, or else."
"..."
"Hmm?"
"I'm going to lose a friendship either way. If I tell you or not," Nikki replied sadly.
If she told the short boy that Neil liked him, she and the tall boys' friendship would obliterate into trillions of pieces. If she didn't tell him, he would tell Ered that she likes her and then their friendship would obliterate into trillions of pieces. But she did ship Max and Neil together...
"What is that supposed to mean?"
I'm sorry Neil.
"It's Neil. He likes you."
A silence so toxic that if you took a deep breath, it would kill you, filled the space around the two teenagers. It was suffocating Nikki how silent Max suddenly went.
"H-he does?" The raven-haired boy asked in an unusual soft manner for him, almost inaudible if you weren't listening close enough. A deep crimson blush appeared on his cheeks.
"Yeah. See why I couldn't tell you?"
"..."
"You're lying, right?"
"No, Max. Why would I lie about this?"
"I have to go," Max mumbled, turning around and starting to sprint away from the perplexed girl. She was about to call out for him but didn't.
Max didn't know why, but he was freaking out because he was told that Neil liked him. It even turned him on a little, and that's one of the reason he was freaking out. He wasn't gay or bisexual!
Or was he?
