I know i promised chapters yesterday but I couldnt upload sry.

The crew sat in the living room. Once in a while they would talk, but for the majority of the time they sat in silence, as they were still grieving Penny. Rubys phone rang.
Ruby checked her caller ID and saw 'Uncle Qrow'.
Ruby: Uncle Qrow?..I better take this.
Ruby walked into the girls bedroom, answering her phone.
Ruby: U-uncle Qrow, whats up?
Qrow: You okay?
Ruby: Y-yeah, why?
Qrow: You sound..nevermind. it's Tai.
Ruby: Dad? What about him? Is...is he okay?
Qrow: Thats the thing..
Ruby: ..what do you mean 'thats the thing?!'
Qrow sighed, sadly.
Qrow: He's in the emergency room at the Hospital.
Ruby: The hospital?! What happened!
Qrow: Ruby I need you to calm down..
Ruby: calm down!? You just told me my dad is in the hospital emergency room!
Qrow: Ruby..just get to the hospital whenever you can, okay?
Ruby: I..okay..b-bye, I guess..
Qrow: Bye..
Ruby hangs up the call and falls to her knees as Oscar enters the room. Her heart was pounding in fear.
Oscar: Ruby!
Oscar ran over to Ruby and kneeled down beside her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
Ruby: What are you doing here...?
Oscar: I heard yelling. What happened?
Ruby: It's my dad..he's..he's in the hospital emergency room.
Oscar: Why? Is he okay?
Ruby: I dont know..but I need to go see him. My uncle told me to go over to the hospital whenever I can.
Oscar: Ok. I'll tell the others..if you want?
Ruby: Yeah..go ahead..
Oscar started to leave.
Ruby: Wait!
Oscar turned towards her.
Ruby: Can you come with me?
Oscar simply nodded, smiling and left the room.
Jaune: What happened?
Nora: Is everything okay? I heard emergency room. Emergency room!
Oscar: Her uncle called her. Her dad's in the hospital.
Ren: Oh no..
Weiss: What happened?
Oscar: She doesnt know..She asked me to come with her to the hospital, so were gonna do that.
Nora: Oh..okay.
Weiss: Be safe!

Oscar walked with Ruby, who was looking down at the ground as they walked.
Oscar: Ruby..your stressing yourself out..
Ruby: But I knew something was wrong..he's been complaining about a pain in his head for a while..oh what if its something bad?
Oscar: Well, who else did your uncle call?
Ruby: Probably just me..why?
Oscar: I dont know, just..tryna build small talk to keep your mind off of all of this...so isnt their anyone else who should know?
Ruby: Uh..no.
Oscar: Your mom..maybe any siblings?
Ruby: They..they arent..
Ruby was cut off by ambulances, police cars and firetrucks rushed over to a spot not to far from where Ruby and Oscar stood.
Oscar: Whoah..that looks serious..
Ruby looked up to see a car crash. A car was flipped over and the other car was destroyed. A child could be heard yelling for her mother, and a baby was crying.
Ruby's mind went back to the night of the crash...
Ruby: Lets keep going..

Oscar and Ruby arrived at the hospital, Ruby pushed open the doors.
A man with black hair and crimson red eyes walked over.
Ruby: Uncle Qrow! What happened?! Wheres dad?! What~
Qrow: Ruby, relax..
Ruby took a deep breath and sighed.
The man looked over at Oscar.
Qrow: Who's this?
Ruby: Thats one of the friends I live with, you can get to know him later, wheres dad!?
Qrow sighs.
Qrow: I'l tell you everything you wanna know, follow me.
Qrow started walking down a hallway as Ruby and Oscar followed.
Ruby: Where is he?!
Qrow: He got moved out of the emergency room, but..he's not awake..
Ruby: A coma?!
Qrow: I dont know..and stop yelling. Im as worried as you are, but their are other people in here too. They might be dealing with their own problems, so dont make a scene..Their are people mourning here, Kid. You should know what that feels like.
Oscar: huh?
Ruby: Nothing Oscar..
Qrow: So thats his name.
Ruby: What happened to dad!?
Qrow sighed once again and turned towards Ruby.
Qrow: He just..collapsed.
Ruby: Collapsed? Is he still alive?! Is he okay?!
Oscar: Ruby..calm down.
Qrow: Listen to your boyfriend.
Oscar and Rubys faces flushed red.
Ruby: De~ wha? Huh? He..he's not my-
Qrow: Yeah I know he's not your boyfriend, but your holding hands.
The two looked down at their hands, seeing that they indeed were holding hands.
They immediately let go, flustered.
Oscar: How'd that happen..
Qrow pointed to a door.
Qrow: In their...brace yourself. Oh, looks like he's awake.
Ruby basically ran towards the door. She opened it and saw her father hooked onto machines, feeding tubes, and he was wearing that thing that goes in your nose to help with breathing. He looked weakly at Ruby.
Tai: Hey Ruby..
Ruby rushed towards her fathers side.
Ruby: Dad!
She sat in the chair next to him and held his hand with both of hers.
Ruby: What happened? What..what happened to you..
Tears started forming in Rubys eyes as it all looked familiar. Too familiar..
Tai: I dont..I fell. And I blacked out..
Ruby: But theirs gotta be s-something m-more to that..you arent t-telling me the whole tr-truth..are you?
Ruby wiped away her tears and looked her father in the eyes.
Tai sighed sadly.
Tai: I..I have a..a..a brain t-tumor.
Rubys face went pale as her eyes widened. Tears spilled from her eyes.
Ruby: No..but, b-but the d-d-doctors can h-help, right? Th-they can help you?
Tai: Ruby..I dont know..if they caught it early, maybe..but..but it's been growing..
Ruby shook her head. She whispered.
Ruby: Dad..I cant lose you too..y-you promised to a-always b-be their f-for me..even..even when you and Q-Qrow were drunk..or when it w-was late at n-night..you were always their for me..
Tai: Yeah..and I just want to say Im sorry..
Ruby: Sorry for what? Y-you didnt do- anything..wrong..
Tai: Im sorry you had to grow up this way. With death..and alcohol..and feeling alone. Im sorry.
Ruby: No it isnt your fault..thats not your fault...Im sorry..
Tai: What for?
Ruby: I..I knew something was wrong, I..Im so sorry dad.. im so so sorry..
Qrow and Oscar were talking at the door.
Oscar: Is he gonna be okay?
Qrow: No..I don't think so..
Oscar: But..you told Ruby not to worry.
Qrow: Yeah because this is the last thing she needs right now.
Oscar: What do you mean?
Qrow: She hasnt told you guys..has she?
Oscar: Told us what?
Qrow sighed and looked at Oscar.
Qrow: Her father, Tai, and I are the only family she has left.
Oscars eyes widen.
Oscar: What? But..she's so happy and~
Qrow: Let me stop you right their. Ive known Ruby since she was born. Ive spent more time with her than anyone else has. So I know her best. And that means I know that she doesnt open up to people. Last time she did..lets just say it didnt end well. Ruby thinks that she'd be a burden if she talked about this stuff. She's...scared.
Oscar: But..were her friends. Why would she be scared to tell us about her past? Why would she~
Qrow: Oscar!
Oscar quieted quickly and looked back at Qrow.
Qrow: You care about her?
Oscar: Huh?
Qrow: You heard me. I see the way you two look at eachother. I can tell, just by looking at you, that theirs somethin' their. No lies. Tell me straight forward, do you care about her?
Oscar slightly blushed but answered.
Oscar: ...yes..I mean we met not long ago but..yeah, theirs..something their..
Qrow: Good. So listen up, alright? Ruby..she's been through a lot, okay? And I can tell she cares about you too. But she's..stubborn. With feelings.
Oscar: What do you mea-
Qrow: I mean the people she cared about are either gone, sick, or they betrayed her. She's afraid of losing people, Oscar.
Oscar: Oh...well I guess thats understandable, considering...actually what exactly happened?
Qrow: That isnt my business to tell. Now, you wanna go meet her dad or what? She isnt crying anymore, just..talking.
Oscar: yeah, sure..but..is you were wondering why her voice was cracking on the phone earlier..it's because our friend, Penny Polladina (is that her last name??) Passed away last week. I..think Ruby blames herself because, she was their.
Qrow: Oh..well, yeah, thats another thing about Ruby. She always finds a way to blame herself for bad things that happen to people.
Oscar: Yeah..I kinda picked up on that one. Lets go.
Oscar and Qrow opened the door.
Ruby: Hey guys..
The blonde man looks over at them.
Tai: Hey Qrow..who's this?
Ruby: Oh! Thats Oscar..my friend. One of the kids I live with..Oscar, this is my..dad. His name is Tai.
Oscar: Nice to meet you Tai.
Tai: Its nice to meet you too, Oscar.
Tai turns towards Ruby.
Tai: I like him.
Ruby smiles sadly and sighs. Oscar looks at her, concerned.
Tai's face turns from smiling to a pained expression.
Ruby: Dad! Whats wrong?!
Qrow: Tai, you okay?
Tai: Ugh, its my head..
Ruby: Oscar, press the help button!
Oscar rushes over to the red button and clicks it repeatedly.
A doctor rushes in and sees that Tai is in pain.
Doctor: Were going to need you to leave. Now!
The three are rushed out of the room.
Oscar looks towards Ruby with concern. She looked scared, sad, but mostly worried, and lost im thought. Maybe even a bit shocked. She looked that way for minutes..

Qrow: Ruby?
Ruby jumped and quickly changed her mood, suddenly smiling. But Oscar and Qrow could see the smile cracking.
Oscar: Are you..okay?
Ruby: Yeah! Of..of course Im..Im fine.
Oscar: Ruby...
Ruby jumped back as the door opened to reveal the female doctor who rushed in earlier.
Qrow: Is he okay?
Ruby: Oh what happened? Please tell me my dad's okay.
Oscar: Let her talk..
The doctor took off her mask and sighed.
Doctor: Im sorry..he doesnt have much time left. He should pass by midnight..or before.
The nurse sighed once again and walked off.
Ruby ran into the room.
Ruby: Dad!
Tai was allowed to sit up for the rest of the visit.
Tai looked around sadly.
Qrow: Tai..
Tai: I can feel myself shutting down..
Ruby: What! N-no th-th-the nurse s-said y-you h-have until m-midnight..
Oscar: Ruby..
Oscar pointed towards the clock that read 11:30 pm.
Ruby covered her mouth.
Tai moved over so Ruby could lay next to him.
She layed down with her head on her shoulder and silently cried. Qrow sat on the other side of Tai. Oscar walked over to Ruby and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. He could see that she was shaking and trying so, so hard to cry quietly. He could see that she wanted to sob, bawl her eyes out, but she was holding back. Oscar placed his hand over hers which she immediately grabbed.
Thats what happen for 28 minutes. Crying, hand holding, nobody speaking.
Ruby looked up at the clock.
Tai: Two more minutes..this is it, huh?
Qrow: This is it...Imma miss you Tai.
Oscar looked up to see very few tears managed to escape Qrows teary eyes.
Tai and Qrow man-hugged.
Tai turned to Oscar.
Tai: It was nice meeting you Oscar.. just wish it was on better circumstances..
Oscar smiled sadly.
The clock turned to 11:59.
Ruby jumped up to give her father a hug. She burried her face in his chest.
Ruby: *muffled* I dont want you to go!
Tai gently pulls Ruby off of him.
Tai: Rubes. I want you to keep living your life, okay? Dont let this affect you too much..please.
Ruby shook her head letting more tears silently fall out of her eyes.
Ruby: No..I cant..Dad..
Tai: The last thing I want to see is your smile.Please....
Reluctantly, Ruby wiped her tears and smiled for her father.
Tai: Thank you..
Oscar looked at the clock...it read 12:00am.
Tai's arms went limp and he shut his eyes.
Ruby: Dad..?
Tai: I love you Ruby..
And then he flatlined.
