⚠️IMPORTANT author's note... ⚠️
if you don't wanna read everything, just skip to the 🌸
i had to re-read this story to remember what's going on and what i wanted to do with it... i could barely even read chapter 2... so...
tyler and josh's job that they both had in this story was based off of mine. near the end of my work's season (cuz it's a seasonal attraction) i had a panic attack and in the moment my coworkers were treating me nicely and as best as they could to get me to calm down. i have terrible, terrible, terrible social anxiety. so the job i had caused me to be anxious and feel uneasy all day anyway. the day after my attack at work the same coworkers that were trying to help me were gossiping to other coworkers that weren't there that day about what happened to me and how "i'm a little p*ssy" (please excuse the language) and how i had no reason to "freak out". even before that incident my coworkers weren't very kind to me now that i look back on it. another thing that still terrifies me is that one day i feel i could've been in a really, really bad situation at work (they started yelling, then they started to threaten... it's a whole story within itself) by a customer because i couldn't do what they wanted me to do and other things... but i've quit that job because even thinking about anything about that workplace makes me feel like i'm on the verge of a panic attack.
SO WHAT I WANNA SAY IS THIS!!!!
🌸 josh and tyler will be working at a candy store that i've completely made up. i cannot write about my old workplace anymore. sorry for the change.
sorry for the inconvenience :(

UPDATE! (like 10 months after writing the long paragraph above)

I now have a job at a "fast food" place. I love it and my coworkers are much nicer to me and it's great. I work with a couple of my school buddies

And I'm sorry for not updating this book for practically a year

On to the story...

Josh walks into work, smiling. He had a great day with Tyler a few days before. They played games and just hung out, something both of them secretly needed. Taking out the key, the teen unlocks the front door of the candy shop.

"Time to get to work." he mumbles to himself and he walks over to the counter. He sets the keys down on the white countertop and takes off his windbreaker. setting it down on the stool behind the counter, Josh gets to work to open up the store before Tyler got there.

Josh walks around and checks to see if anything needed to be severely restocked. He found that a few of the jelly bean dispensers needed to be refilled, and a few boxes of weird kinds of candy the store would get shipped that either gets bought very often, or gets left on the shelf to rot. In a trance like state, he stocks up before opening the store to the public.

An hour passes by, only one small group of four walk in before Tyler comes and clocks in. After the four people cash out and leave Tyler greets Josh.

"Hey, Josh." Tyler smiles, unwrapping a tootsie roll and popping it into his mouth.

"Hi, T." Josh says, sitting on the stool next to Tyler. Tyler tilts his head and sits down on his own stool behind the counter.

"T?"

"Yeah," Josh shrugs. "Why not, it's something new to say." He says.

"Okay then, weirdo."

They both laugh and giggle. They talk and joke around for about forty minutes until a small wave of people come in with little, annoying children. The wave of people take forever to pick out candy.

"J, why haven't they left yet?" Tyler whispers to him, not shifting his gaze from a little girl jumping around with her little doll, pretending to let the doll lick a wrapped lollipop.

Shrugging, Josh sighs, "I dunno, they're getting pretty annoying. Let's hope they leave within the next five to ten minutes."

"That'd be nice." Tyler replies.

In the next half hour the store is completely empty once again. Josh starts to get bored and his mind slowly starts to slip into his little headspace. Not knowing what to do, he turns to Tyler.

"T?"

"J?"

"I'm bored."

"Me too."

Josh sighs and hops off of the stool he was sitting on. He wanders around the store for a couple minutes, admiring the candy that was everywhere. He was allowed to eat the candy during work, but only a little during each shift. He frowns and walks back over to the counter where Tyler was sitting.

"Um, when do we clock out again?" Tyler asks, looking over at the clock by the entrance of the store.

"Uh, I opened at seven thirty today instead of eight and the owner only wants the store open for six to seven hours. So we'll probably close around one to two thirty instead of two or three. Sound good?"

"Yeah. Do you want me to do anything right now?"

Josh looks around, his gaze stopping at the door to the back room. "How about I get a couple dusters and we'll just dust off some of the jars of candy, how about that?"

Tyler nods as Josh gets up and walks to the back room. He comes out a minute later with a rainbow duster and a yellow duster.

"Which would ya like?" Josh offers.

"Um, I'll take the rainbow one!" Tyler smiles as he hops off of his stool.

The two start to dust and dust around the jars that had candy in them. They made jokes as they dusted. They tried to make working fun.

"Wait," Josh said. "you aren't allergic to dust right? Like really allergic. Like bad allergic?"

Tyler stares at Josh, plain dumbfounded. "Why— Now is just the perfect time to ask that question, isn't it?"

They both burst out laughing at themselves, little tears forming in both boy's eyes.

"Hey! Better, wait, no, late is... late is better than never? No, that doesn't sound right either." Josh forces out the last sentence as another laughing fit ensues for the two of them.

"I can't breathe. Oh my gosh." Tyler wheezes.

"Better late than never, Tyler, better late than never... there we go, found the words." Josh sighs as they both take deep breaths to calm themselves.

The two boys continue to dust around the store, finding whatever they could to give them a reason to laugh again. Multiple laughing fits started the entire time. When they were done they went back to the front counter just in time for some people with children to walk in. As the people were looking around Josh leans over to Tyler.

"Wanna come over again? My mom already says she loves you." Josh whispers, keeping an eye on the sticky-handed kids.

"Really?" Tyler smiles.

"Yeah, totally."

"Of course!"

"Awesome, we can stop by some fast food place before we go, bring home some food for us and my mom."

Tyler sighs happily, "Sounds awesome."

"Sweet."
