ASKING FOR IT

Okay, I REALLY need to stop writing such dark and scary one-shots. I got this idea from a pic on Pinterest.

Will strolled down the street, humming to himself. He was glad to be out of the infirmary for once; he enjoyed working, but there were times when he needed fresh air.

Something caught his eye to the right. He turned to see a woman across the street. She was clearly intoxicated, and Will became concerned. But then he saw that she had a friend with her, and was relieved.

Suddenly, two men behind him began to make jokes. At first, Will couldn't make out what they were saying, but when he realized what they were giggling about, his blood ran cold.

They were joking about raping the girl across the street.

At first, Will tried to ignore them, but the more the men laughed, the more hot his temper became.

The one to Will's right--the main one saying the jokes--said, "What's the difference between yes and no? Nothing."

Will's temper flared, then froze into a lethal calm. He whipped around, nearly crashing into the men. He gave the main one a bright smile and said, "Would you mind if I punched you in the face?"

The guy frowned. "Uh, yes."

Still grinning, Will drove his fist into the guy's face.

"Ow!" The man doubled over, clutching his nose, now broken and bleeding. "What was that for?!"

"You just said it yourself," Will pointed out in a light tone, as though he was talking to a child. "There's no difference between yes and no."

And with that, Will strolled away, whistling a merry tune.

"I can't believe you did that!" Kayla exclaimed as she bandaged Will's throbbing hand.

He winced as she tightened the wrappings. "I--"

"Why did you hit a stranger?"

"Technically...I didn't hit him. I punched him."

"You what?"

"I broke his nose."

Kayla closed her eyes and sucked in a deep breath through clenched teeth, trying to compose herself. "Why did you break a stranger's nose?"

Will's temper stirred. "He was joking about raping a girl." He couldn't help it-- he bared his teeth in a cold smile. "He was asking for it."

Kayla stared at him for a moment. A small smile tugged at her mouth. "I know I shouldn't be, but I'm proud of you."

Will laughed. "If you had done it, I wouldn't snap at you at all."

"Do you regret it?" Austin asked.

Will beamed. "Nope. I hope he answers truthfully when people ask what happened to his nose."

Kayla grinned, shaking her head.

Sorry that one was so short, but hey, at least it isn't depressing like the past chapters.
FYI: I love comments! They're the best part about writing fanfiction. If you got anything to say, let me hear it!
