It was just another day. At least, I thought it was. I had gotten up early because it was the first day of the new school year. I had been dreading this day for a while but knew I couldn't run from it. I sat up and moved my wavy brown hair out of my blue eyes. I rubbed my eyes a few times to clear the blur from my eyes before I swung my legs off the side of the bed and leaned over. I had been up late the night before with excitement and dread that I had barely gotten any sleep. Which I was regretting now.
I got out of bed and walked into my bathroom. I turned on the shower and got in, savoring the warm water as it ran down my back. I never wanted to leave. Once I had washed my hair with shampoo and conditioner, I turned off the water and got out. I wrapped the towel around my body and walked into my room to pick out my clothes. I decided I wanted to be a little edge. Something I didn't normally do but I thought, hey, new school, new me. I walked over to my dresser and grabbed out my favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans and a fitted black tank top. Once I was dried off, I slipped into my clothes and walked back into the bathroom to dry my hair. I blow dried my hair and let it fall into its natural wave curls.
After my hair was dried and styled, I grabbed my leather jacket from my closet and threw it on before walking out of my room and downstairs. As I stepped off the last stair, I felt my brother push past me. I bumped into the wall and felt a quick shot of pain in my shoulder.
"Dude, that hurt." I called after him. He stopped and turned around, looking at me with a smile on his face. His dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. At 12, he was the most annoying person I had ever met. And I'm not exaggerating.
"Well, maybe if you weren't so slow, you wouldn't have gotten in my way." he said before turning back around and running into the kitchen. As I turned the corner to follow, a sweet smell crept into my nose. Chocolate pancakes. I took a deep breath, savoring the smell. I watched as my brother sat quickly in his chair as mom set down a plate of pancakes in front of him. I quickly made it over to my spot next to him and mom handed me a plate. I set it down in front of me and picked up my fork.
"Thanks mom, it looks delicious." I said before digging in. I stuffed fork full after fork full into my mouth as if my life depended on it. Just then my dad walked in and over to the coffee pot by the sink.
"Morning dad." I said in between bits.
"Morning sweetheart. Are you excited for your first day of school?" my dad asked before taking a sip of his coffee. I nodded as I finished my last bit. Then I got up and set my plate in the sink. As I walked towards the door, I grabbed my bad from the ground by the front door.
"Have a good day." I heard my dad call from the kitchen.
"I will. Love you." I called. But before I could get their response, I was already out the door and walking down our stone pathway. As I started walking towards the white fence that separated our pathway from the sidewalk, I heard what sounded like airplanes zoom by over my head. But when I looked up, I saw nothing. As if I was hallucinating. Just then another plane zipped by. But this time, I saw it. I looked around and noticed it wasn't an airplane. At least, not any I knew of. It was different. I was going to shrug it off when I suddenly heard a loud boom and saw an explosion off in the distance. I dropped my backpack from my shoulder and looked back up at the sky. Suddenly, there we another burst of light and I was knocked onto the ground. I covered my face with my arm in attempt to shield my face. When the light died down, I moved my arm and got up. Whatever that was, it wasn't human, that was for sure. A sense of panic started rushing over me and I needed to get to my family. Just as I turned around to run back to the house, I heard the zoom of a laser and a sudden bolt of electricity on my back and down my spine. I froze and shook standing in one spot for a minute before I collapsed on the ground. I forced my eyes to stay open but I was failing. But before my vision could cut out completely, I saw these ugly creature like things look down at me. They were a dirty green color and had slim around what I think should be the mouth. It had two arms with three finger-claw things on each arm. It had these two long pointer things on each side of its face making it look like it was going to eat you. I felt my eyelids get heavier as I looked between the two creatures on both sides. Whatever was going on, I would have to wait to find out.
