I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring next to my head. I hit snooze on my alarm around three times before I realized it was 7:15 and school started in 20 minutes. Quickly, I hopped out of bed and headed to the bathroom to get ready. I grabbed a graphic T-shirt, some jeans and my Converse.
My mom already had gone to work but she made breakfast before she left. Of course that was about an hour ago so I ran out the door with a cold breakfast burrito. I scurried to find the key to my 1973 sky blue Volkswagen bug and unlocked the car. I put the keys in the ignition and turned them. Nothing.
"Not today," I spoke to myself. "Today of all days."
Trying to start the engine a second time I finally heard the pur of the vehicle and sped off to school. Pulling into the first open parking place I could find I grabbed my backpack and jogged towards the school. I turned to lock my car and forcefully collided into someone. My backpack falls to the ground throwing notebook paper into the air.
"Great." I say aloud.
"Watch where you're going." A deep voice from above me snarls.
I look up to see a tall, muscular, boy with curly coffee-colored hair and amber eyes. He was wearing a leather jacket, dark denim jeans and a light grey T-shirt. I must say he was quite attractive.
"Not even a 'Sorry miss for being a brick wall. Would you like me to help you with your things?'" I question as I rolled my eyes, picking up my things off the asphalt. He grabbed my arm roughly.
"This isn't some fairy tale princessa," his words dripped with venom. I ripped my arm out of his grasp.
"You don't get to grab women like that." I glare at him.
"Tell me what to do one more time, we'll see what happens."
"Mr. Altera! My office! Now!" A new voice buts in.
The stranger glares at me, then storms off.
"I'm sorry about that Miss Grayson. I'm Kimberly Reece, your head principal. Welcome to Union Pines." Mrs. Reece extends her hand to me. I firmly shake it. Her pale blonde hair is tied up loosely and she wears a pencil skirt with a lavender blouse.
"Nice to meet you ma'am. Glad to be here." I smile at her.
"I'm sorry your first memory at our school wasn't more pleasant. Please don't mind Valentino. I'm sure he doesn't mean it."
Seems like he did.
"It's alright." I lie.
"Well if you'll follow me, I'll show you to the office where we can get your schedule situated." We enter the school and take a left to the office. I see Valentino sitting in one of the blue chairs as we walk in. Mrs. Reece gives me my schedule and shows me around the school.
"This place is much nicer than my old school." I state.
"Well I'm glad you like it." She giggles. "This will be your first class." She gestures towards the chemistry lab.
"Thank you so much for everything."
"Of course sweetheart and if you need anything you let me know. I hope you like it here." And with that she walks away. I knock on the door and Mr. Anderson, my chemistry teacher opens it.
"Hello there! You must be Charlotte. It's nice to meet you."
I give him a warm smile. "It's nice to meet you too sir."
"You can sit there in the back next to- Mr. Altera how many times do I have to tell you to keep your feet off of that desk? Were you raised by wolves?"
I look back to see none other than Valentino sitting right next to the only empty seat in the entire classroom.
"I'd like to think so." Valentino chuckles to himself and the rest of the class joins.
"Keep the jokes to yourself Mr. Altera or I'll have to write you up."
Valentino rolls his eyes and takes his feet off of the desk. I sit down in the chair next to him. After 40 excruciatingly awkward minutes the bell rings.
"I'll see you tomorrow class! Don't forget to read Chapters 4-6 tonight!" Mr. Anderson yells at the students fleeing his class.
The day goes by relatively quickly. I have seven classes and I get lunch after the first four. In the lunch room I notice a girl with platinum blonde hair sitting by herself. I walk over.
"Excuse me? Is this seat taken?"
She looks up at me confused but also excited.
"No not at all." She practically beams at me.
"I'm Charlotte but my friends call me Lottie."
"Delilah Brunswick. Pleased to meet ya." She says in her sing-songy southern accent.
"So why are you sitting all alone? If you don't mind me asking."
"She that girl over there?" She gestures toward a girl with long chestnut hair that's tightly braided behind her back. I nod.
"I've been trying to get her to notice me."
"Really?" I smile.
"Yeah." She turns a bright shade of pink.
"Why don't you go and talk to her?"
"Well I'm not quite sure if she, uh likes me."
I look at Delilah and wonder what's there not to like. Her light hair is short and wavy. She has ocean blue eyes and a beautiful smile.
"Why wouldn't she like you?"
Delilah tenses.
"Well uh, I'm not sure if she, well.... swings that direction."
"Of course. I guess you and I will just have to figure this out together then."
She looks at me and just smiles brightly, lost for words.
"I'd like that." She finally speaks.
I have a feeling I might enjoy it here.
