New house, new school, new friends. How hard can it be?
I take a deep breath as I pack school supplies into my backpack.
"California can't be that different from Tennessee can it?" I ask aloud.
My dad recently accepted a new job as the district superintendent of schools. I've lived in Tennessee for as long as I can remember, but a fresh start is just what I need.
Tomorrow I start my first day as a junior at Union Pines. I am beyond anxious, but despite the feeling in my stomach, my mind tells me good things are coming. My thoughts are interrupted by the sharp tone of my phone.
"Hello?" I ask picking my phone up off the bedside table.
"Hey! How are you? How's your house? Have you gone to school yet? Are there any cute boys? Have you made any friends?"
I laugh as I recognize the high, cheery voice of my best friend Georgia. We've been close since we met in Kindergarten and we've been through everything together.  Hearing her brings me immediate relief.
"Slow down GG," I smile. "I'm alright."
"Oops. Sorry," she giggles on the other end. "I'm just so excited for you! I bet your school is going to be way better than this hellhole."
Georgia didn't like Ridgecrest but I never minded it. I had a few close friends and I liked the peaceful atmosphere the school gave.
"I think I'm ready for tomorrow."
"Of course you're ready for tomorrow. Everyone's going to love you so you have nothing to worry about Lottie."
     "I miss you."
     I hear Georgia sigh.
"I know. I miss you too and it's going to be hard not seeing you everyday, but hey I'll see you this summer."
     "Yeah. Right."
"I've got to go but I'll talk to you as soon as I can. Love you Char."
Georgia has always had multiple nicknames for everyone she comes in contact with.
     "Love you too GG."
After hanging up, I walk over to my desk and put my phone on the charger. I get in bed and look up at the ceiling.
How hard can it be?
