I wake up the next morning, my eyes adjust to the morning sunlight shining down onto the bed (and my eyes) from the window. Ian's still resting peacefully in my arms, while I'm relaxing peacefully in his. I start to take in the little details. The rise and fall of his chest as he breaths steadily. His bowl hair in an unordinary fashion. Damn, how can someone look so amazing while they sleep? God, all of this makes me sound like a stalker. But it's just the truth. You take in your surroundings when everything is peaceful. I know I keep bringing this up, but five years really affects a person as....well...a person. This has been better than I would've ever expected.Around a few minutes later I can't wait any longer, and I start to shake Ian. "Iaannnn," I whine. "Wake up. I'm fucking hungry..." I sigh, shaking him harder. Ian groans and looks up at me. "What?" He mumbles against the pillow. "I'm hungry make me food." "You know I can't cook...." "I can't cook either!" I argue, smiling down at him. "Ugh...how about we go out to eat and then go to the park?" Ian suggests. "That's surprsingly...a good...idea."
After going out for breakfast (of which I got scrambled eggs and Ian got pancakes) we go to the park. "I'll race you to the swings!" Ian exclaims, starting to run towards them. "You little bitch!" He beats me to the swings and happily sits down on one. When I get to the swings, I say "C'mon, you had a head start and not to mention you use to be a runner," I complain. "Oh no! Poor you!" Ian laughs. "Shut up," I respond, pushing him playfully. I look around the park. There's a tree over there...It looks like a good climbing tree. I use to climb trees all the time!
"Ian, let's go and sit on the tree!" I suggest, hopping out of the swing. "Okay!" Ian happily agrees following close behind me. We both start running towards it, and even though I got a head start, Ian still beats me. "C'mon!" I exclaim, frustrated. Ian laughs, his tongue poking out of his teeth a bit as he does.
I start climbing the tree. It's actually a pretty tall tree for this area. "I wanna go to the very top!" I say childishly. I look down at Ian, who's following my footsteps. But...he looks a bit nervous. "Ian? Are you alright?" I ask him. Ian nods, and continues climbing. After one more minute, we are both pretty high up. Almost at the very tippy top. I look down at Ian, he looks extremely nervous now. "What is it Ian?" I ask bluntly. "I....I'm kinda...sca-" "scared of heights?" I finish his sentence for him. Before he can say anything else...I hear a snap of a branch.
He falls down, his face slides down the side of the tree as this happens. Shit! I climb down the tree as fast as I possible can. Ian's on the ground, his face in his hands. "Ian?" I kneel down by him. He looks up at me. His face is scattered with cuts and slivers of wood from the tree. His eyes start to fill with tears, but it's obvious he's trying to fight them back. "Oh god, we should get you home," I tell him, helping him up. "What hurts?" I ask him. I feel like a mother when I say that. Heh.."Mostly my face, kinda my leg, but not too much," Ian answers.
After we get home, I take Ian into the bathroom and grab a few things. A wet paper towel, some tweezers and neosporin. When I come back, Ian's sitting on the edge of the sink, a small tear still in his eye. "Awh, Ian..." I say, feeling bad. God, I'd take his place in a heartbeat. It looks painful. Yeah, it's obvious it's nothing serious, but it does obviously hurt. "I'll be fine," Ian replies, trying to act tough and brave, etc... I grab the paper towel and dab the small amounts of blood on his face. Ian, you cutie...I can't help it. I kiss the top of his forehead. Ian freezes for a moment but then takes it as a friendly gesture. I grab the tweezers and start pulling out the slivers on his face. He winces every time I do it, but stays silent. We stay in complete silence as this all happens. "Than-" Ian stops mid sentence.
Time stops. "Obstacle one," I hear my voice, well...Reflection's voice. We have the same voice. It still freaks me out. Anyways... "You call this an obstacle?" I ask, scoffing. A smile inches up his face, and then grows into a grin. It started with soft laughing...to the point where you can barely even hear him. Then, it grows. Slowly, then faster, and faster. Louder and louder. To the point where it's completely unbearable. "You...you think? That....this...is all there is?" He says inbetween bursts of laughter. "Oh no...my dear child...there's much worse to come. Much...worse to come." He disappears.
