Today was the day. The day that Riley had been dreading since he was 11. The day that he would have to leave his family, his friends, and everything he has ever known. It's not something he could avoid, the scientists and overall people of higher power were making him go. His family was sad to need to say bye, but were happy that he get a better life.

He remembers the day, years ago, when it was announced that a small portion of the human race was to be transported to Mars to have a new start. That there would be tests to determine who would stay and who would go. The contestents were mainly men, but there were a few woman. They did races, tested who could lift the most weights, and more grueling activities.

For some reason, he still made it. Maybe he was still chosen, maybe they saw through his mask. He would never know. They were being sent up with building supplies, a years worth of non perishable and dehydrated food, and water. It was their quest to build a new civilization on Mars, while the rest of the human race died out on the dying Earth.
