The Rise of the New Mutants (An X-Men: Evolution MLU Story)

Chapter 1: The Relationship Project

    The alarm clock rang at 9:20am and he went fast asleep but then he saw a paper with his schedule on it and he instantly saw the class with Professor Hank McCoy at 9:30am.

    "Oh shit!" He exclaimed hurriedly and rushed out the door in the same torn jeans and shirt not even seeing the new clothes on the chair next to his bed. Professor McCoy was getting ready for his classes he had already had his classes planned out. Nightcrawler had had a lot going on lately with school and controlling his powers. He hadn't really thought about much of anything else. He was doing a lot better at controlling his powers he just needed about another month worth of help. Angel was a few weeks into being in school so he had just learned the rules he didn't have many friends but he hoped to make new friends and he was tired from not getting enough sleep the night before because he had a feeling something different was going on that day.  Johnny rushed to class barely making it, rushing into the door with his head down and seating in the back of the room, having his hair come down over his left eye and the same tattered clothes from the night before. Toad, one of the mutant bullies looked at him with disgust.

    "Hey, we don't accept mutants from the swamp!" Toad said disgusted. Cyclops, a mutant that's been there for a few months shot a look at Toad.

    "Why not? You came from one. Afraid of some competition?" He shot back, making the mutant angry and grabbing his tongue onto Johnny's arm harassing him. Professor McCoy didn't know of Johnny being harassed because he was trying to get everything ready for class. Nightcrawler watched what was happening and spoke up as well

    "Leave the poor kid alone. You don't even know him," Nightcrawler said sternly at Todd. Angel was sitting beside Nightcrawler and looked at Johnny, smiling kindly at him, then turning to Toad.

    "Why don't you pick on someone your own size. You were new here at one point too," Angel said looking at the smily mutant. Angel then went over and sat with Johnny. Toad reeled his tongue back into his mouth and talked with his friends being a jerk about him. Johnny didn't notice Angel at first but then looked at him once and look down again quickly not knowing what to do. He was nervous since he didn't really know anyone. Cyclops came over and sat on the other side.

    "Don't pay attention to that jerk. He's just a troublemaker. The name's Scott Summers. They call my Cyclops. And that is the magnificent Angel. His real name's Warren Worthington III, but he doesn't let the III in his name bother him. And that's Kurt Wagner, also better known as Nightcrawler. So what's your name?" 

    "M-my name's Johnny Graze," he said stuttering a bit. He started to rub the slime from toad's tongue off of him a bit and still looked down still scared.   

    "You're a shy little thing aren't you. We won't bite I promise," Nightcrawler said smiling at Johnny. Angel watched Johnny trying to figure him out a little feeling like he needed to protect him even though he was a little new as well.

    "I'm new here too," Angel said calmly and soothingly.  "I've only been here long enough to learn the rules and what he just did is also a part of the rules. We aren't supposed to use our powers against others unless we are in danger of getting hurt." He still continued to watch Johnny, hoping he didn't scare him too much. Johnny looks at the three of them a bit nodding. He looked at them again.

    "I have time after class...if you truly wanna get to know me...we can hang out," Johnny stuttered. "But...be mindful...I never hung out with people at all." What a lot of people didn't know was that at the orphanage, everyone had very little technology, not much to live off of, which was also another reason why people also made fun of him.
