The Rise of the New Mutants (An X-Men: Evolution MLU Story)

Chapter 6: Enter Isabella

Isabella had just moved to town. She was new there, but her family thought it would be best if she went to the mutant school, since her powers had just showed. She was a lucky girl since her parents were supportive of her and not many parents would support their children coming out as mutants. Her powers were that she could control water. The way her parents found out was she got so mad one day at a bully that their water bottle in their hand exploded all over them. But her parents didn't know she was bullied though. She walked into the school and Professor X talked to her explaining everything to her. Once they were done talking, she went to her room and started making it into her room. Spyke, Storm's nephew was seeing the new girl moving in checking things out.

"So you're new to the place huh?" He asked her smiling a bit. Isabella jumped slight bit, not expecting anyone to just come talk to her.

"Um...yeah...I don't really know what is where," She explained putting her hand out politely. "I'm Isabella, but you can call me Bella".

"I'm Evan, but I go by my codename Spyke," he said smiling a bit. "So where did you come from?"

"I'm from the south," Isabella explained. 'You could say we moved here because my parents found out I was a mutant they are very accepting and they wanted me to learn to control my powers."

"Sounds like good parents," Spyke acknowledged. "My aunt, which she's one of the head teachers here, sent me here to not only spend time with her but to also control my powers too".

"Why did you come up to me?" she asked curiously. "I know I'm new but I didn't expect anyone to talk to me".

"I'm more of an outgoing person," Spyke explained. "I'll talk to anyone and defend those who do the right thing".

"That's nice of you," Isabella said nodding. "I'm hungry. Where can I get food if you don't mind me asking".

"I'll show you," he said walking with her. Isabella smiled walking with him and as she looked around and could easily figure out where she was going the next time that she wanted food.

"Thanks so what class do you have. I have my schedule I just never looked at it since school was over before I actually moved in."

"I have my history class in a few hours," he said smiling. "A bunch of my friends are in that same class with me. They're really nice". Isabella nodded taking her schedule out and handed it to him.

"That's my schedule," Isabella pointed out. "I don't know where half my classes are".

"I have the same ones so no worries!" Spyke said excitedly.

"I don't want to intrude on your day though," Isabella pointed out.

"Hey it's cool, you're not intruding at all," he said warmly.

"Are you sure?" Isabella asked not looking convinced. She didn't tell him but she got nervous around to many people and hoped he only had a few friends because she knew he would introduce her to them. Spyke could tell she was a bit nervous and tried to help her to be more confident.

"Yeah I'm sure!" He said. "Don't be shy. They're cool and they're awesome".

"I can't help it. I tend to freak people out because I have the ability to use water and because I'm confident in who I am," Isabella explained shaking her head in disagreement.

"Hey, I tend to freak people out because I can project spikes to come out of my body," Spyke explained to her as well as demonstrated his power for her.

"Oh that's cool!" she said enthusiastically. "Remind me not to make you mad".

"Water powers are awesome too," Spyke commented.

"Thank you I'll have to show you sometime," Isabella said smiling. "We just found out about my powers like a month ago so I'm fairly new at it." Isabella smiled and thought that Spyke was cool as a friend and wanted him to hang out with during her stay.

"You know we got a new student earlier today and his powers are controlling plants," Spyke said smiling a bit.

"That's cool too!" Isabella commented. "What's his name?

"His name's...I think Johnny," Spyke was trying to recall but did so correctly. "I just met him during the class we were in during the couple's project in Professor McCoy's class".

"And what does Professor McCoy teach?" Isabella asked.

"He usually does social interaction and science classes.," Spyke explained.

"I'm pretty good with mutant science stuff, but human science I can't," Isabella said with a hint of slight nervousness in her tone.

"He's great! He used to be a teacher at Bayville High when he was human. He's always been a mutant but he had a serum that changed him to be human on his outwards appearance and then...one day, the serum stopped working and he became a mutant again. His goes by Beast, because of his appearance. He he's really gentle and very poetic," he said. Isabella says smiling

"He sounds awesome but that's weird that it just stopped working," Isabella said interested about everything Spyke talked about.

"He is awesome," Spyke said smiling. "It stopped working because the X-Gene overcame his human DNA and bonded to let the Mutant features show. His classes are the best".

"The way you're talking it seems like you guys have started something in class already that I missed."

"We has a thing called the couple experiment. We have to partner up with someone for the semester and pretend we're a couple. If we buckle under pressure and don't plan a wedding we get half credit, and if we have the wedding, full credit". Isabella nodded.

"Oh jeez I won't know who I'm going to be partners with," she said thinking. "Oh! Question who are the mutants that are trouble and I should stay away from?" She knew there was always those people to stay away from and make sure not to get bullied she could stand up for herself for the most part.

"Todd and a few other guys are gross and perverted. They actually sexually harassed Johnny. Well Todd did. He has toad abilities. So imagine where his tongue went," he said. Isabella made a disgusted face and shakes her head

"If he ever did that to me I'd spray him with water and tell him to back off," she said with disgust but confidence on defending herself. Spyke smiles a bit at her.

"That's what I like. Someone who can fight off some pervs," he said.

"I can stand up for myself but at times it's hard you know?" she smiled more. Spyke smiled back.

"I'll take you to my friends. They're chill". Isabella nods smiling nervously.

"Okay I can't wait to meet them!" she said cheerfully but the nervousness was still present in her tone.
