I quietly stood at the bottom of a street light. Waiting. When was he going to get here? I looked up and down the street one last time. I sighed. Once again, my boyfriend forgot about me. I made a face, so much for ‘I love you’. I grabbed my sweater from the bench next to me and put it on. It was a chilly night, no clouds in the sky. All the beautiful stars shining down on me, joined by the equally stunning full moon. The streets weren’t as dark when their was a full moon, it made me feel safer. I could everywhere, no one lurking in the shadows to scare me.
I made my way down the first block, my feet aching. I took off my heels, my feet feeling a lot better. I hated wearing those things but my parents insisted that only for tonight, to make a good impression. Always for impression, that’s all they scare about. Keeping their damn reputation a float. Ahead of me, I was the reflection of some lights. I looked behind me and sure enough there was a small car driving by me. It wasn’t my boyfriend, so I ignored them.
“Hey!” someone shouted.
I felt my heart race. Don’t turn, I kept telling myself, don’t pay attention to them. Great. Just my luck. Only I could find someone awake at this time.
“Hey, Jade?” Someone shouted again. Then I turned, how did they know my name? I was surprised to see Ben Bruce’s familiar face. We went to high school together, we weren’t exactly friends. He was always with Danny Worsnop. I didn’t like Danny much. He was always hitting on me, making me feel unconfterable, so I never really hung out with ben much. It was a shame, since we were friends since kindergarden. We still texted all the time but it just wasn’t the same. But even so, I knew this kid like the palm of my hand.
“Oh, hey!” I said back. He parked his car on the side of the road and hopped out. He was wearing torn black skinny jeans with a shirt that said ‘Get On Your Knees’ Asking Alexandria. Looks like his band dream did come true. I smiled. At least one of us was succeeding.
“Whats up?” He said, walking up to me and wrapping his arms around me.
“Walking,” I answered. He picked me up and spun me around. I laughed as did he. I missed ben. He was such an amazing guy.
“Home?” He asked.
“Yeah” I said.
“Do you still live with your parents?” He asked.
“No, I moved out of that shit box as soon as I could. Didn’t stop them from calling me every single day though. In fact, I just got back from a party they made me go to. I hated it. All squares with ties and what not” I said.
“That explains your outfit. Its not you” he said.
I looked down, I was wearing black tights, they were a bit thin, you could still see my skin. Also a black, elegant skirt. It was tight fitting, and only went down about an inch after my bottom. A black tank top with a white, think shirt over it. My heels were in my hand, black high-tops. My hair was done in a bump, my bangs pushed to the side.
“Yeah… I like the tights” I said.
“Well, either way you look stunning. You always do.” He said.
I felt my cheeks grow hot.
“Thank you.”
“So, do you need a ride?” He asked.
“Sure, my stupid boyfriend forgot about me and forgot to pick me up.” I said as Ben took my arm in his and lead me to the passenger’s side.
“Boyfriend?” He asked.
“Chase, you remember him? From high school? I went to prom with him” I said.
“Oh yeah! He should shave his head and tattoo a nice big hole on top. So he can walk around as the real dickhead he is.” Ben said, as he opened the door for me.
