I didn't grow up like most kids, things were hard and I lived a hated life. I never thought I would wanna be alive until things changed and I started fighting for my life instead. My name is Lilyan Parkson and this is my story.
July 5th 2019
It was another long night, just like most of my nights. I had my headphones in listening to Lil-Peep a fairly known artist I had grown to love. I sighed as I looked out the window in my room, I sat in my windowsill crying and watching the rain as it poured down rapidly. On nights like tonight all I wanted to do was sleep, sleep the pain away and forget about everything. I sat in the same place for a few hours slowly drifting to sleep, wishing for something different.
I woke up to the thunder pounding. I was startled and realized there was no power. My lights in my room were off and my phone almost dead. I try to unplug and replug my charger back in but with my luck, it didn't work. I took my headphones out and stood up, setting my things on my bed, and walking into my parents room. There was no sign of them, where could they have gone? The storm starts to settle and I make my way into the living room. I open the front door and notice that most of everyone's lights are out on the street and things seem, abandoned almost. I step outside closing the door behind me and walk down to the sidewalk, as I do so I spot someone down the road. I holler and yell at them to try to get their attention but to my avail, it didn't work.
I walk down the empty road getting closer and closer to the person. There was slight movement coming from them but not like it should have been. I made it about a foot apart from the person and yells once more. "HELLO?!", the person quickly turned towards me, their face looked melted, torn apart and just as rotting corpse would. The clothes on their back was torn to shreds almost and It was something I had only seen in a movie but now much more scarier. How was this possible? Was someone messing with me? They start to charge at me and I stumble back quickly running like I never ran before back to the house. The thing wasn't far behind but I quickly made it into the house and shut the door behind me, leaning up against the door, locking it, and sliding down onto floor. "What is going on here?", "it can't be...zombies? God I'm going insane..", I took a deep breath and stood up. I took a peak out the window and the thing was still walking down the street.
I quickly closed the curtain and ran up to my parents room. "Shit, I know it's got to be somewhere.", I ransacked my parents room trying to find the safe they had. Mom would never let me near it because 'she didn't trust me.' I looked through the room for what seemed like forever until finally "ahah!", hidden in the back of the closet was my fathers big blue safe...with a pin code. I quickly put in my birthday, 1-08-00...click. "Yes!", I knew my dad would of made it my birthday. Hell and to think.. I'm 19 years old dealing with all of this. I opened the safe and pulled out my dads gun holders and pistols. There was also a wad of cash but if what I think is really going on is true then...I won't need money.
I hold the things I've collected in my hand and walk back into my room to change into something more...comfortable? I open my closet and all of my dresser drawers looking for something to wear. My clothing choice? A baggy tee shirt but not long and big enough to be a dress on me, just a simple biggish tee, a pair of shorts. Neon pink to be exact. Not booty short but a nice fitting pair, and the only pair of black and red Jordan's I owned. I grabbed an old book-bag out of my closet and start throwing things I might need in it, like food, waters, a hoodie, matches/lighter, my phone (just in case), and its charger and other things I thought I may need.
I took everything I just packed up and set it on the couch in the living room. I placed the gun holster around my waist and placed both of the pistols in them. I took a deep breath and sat on the couch. Why was I packing up? I shouldn't leave just yet, I'm safe here until something happens. Tick tock tick tock... the sound of the clock rang through my ears, it wasn't as pleasurable as it used to be. I look up at the clock (1;45pm). It was still pretty early in the day, what was going on? Someone had to have some kind of answers because this was all nonsense.
Maybe I'm dreaming? Maybe this is just some nightmare I'm having and I'll wake up if I pinch myself. My thoughts rang through my head as if I was in a tunnel and I could here my voice echo back at me. I quickly pinch my inner arm and hard, letting out a sharp yelp in pain. "Okay maybe...this isn't a dream?", It felt all to real to be a dream, so there goes that heart saving theory of mine. Boom Boom BOOM. I almost jumped out of my skin and quickly turned my attention toward my window. It was close, I could tell.
I quickly get up and take a peak out the living room window. "What the...", there and then was when I saw, for the first time another person. He ran down the road shooting those...things if they were to close. He wore a blue tee shirt with a bullet proof vest over top, a pair of nice jeans any guy would kill for and, red and black Jordan's. Just like mine. He looked about his early twenties maybe even teens which is why he looked so underdressed for what may be a zombie apocalypse. Should I let him in? I walk away from the window and pace back and forth, deciding maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea.
I sighed and jump out of my skin once more when CRASH! My back door is shattered to a million pieces. I grab my bag I packed and made sure my guns were loaded. "Shit", I forgot to grab the ammo?! How stupid could I be? I quickly run upstairs and back into the safe, grabbing the 6 cases of bullets and shoving them into my bag and loading both my guns. I hear them approaching the stairs, the sounds they made reminded me of a cackling witch. I quickly climbed out my window onto the roof and made the foot drop into my front yard. There was so many of these things now, that man must of attracted them all this way.
I quickly threw the bag onto my back and tightened the straps. I looked around to make sure there was a way out. As soon as I found a clear running, I was off. I ran and ran until my legs gave out. I made it to the inner city, there was no sign of anyone, and at that very moment I realized...I was alone.//word count 1283//
