So, I'm pretty neutral towards Nagito. I like him because he's an interesting and complex character, but I also hate him for how annoying he can be and his actions.
At first he seemed like a nice chill guy, especially when he was introducing Hajime to the rest of the cast and during the investigation of Imposter Byakuya's murder. But then we saw his true self during the trial. Even though he calls himself a pessimist, he's quite carefree and optimistic for the others, even if they don't take him seriously.
This was when I became more interested in him, I wanted to understand Nagito's intentions and his reasons behind them. Sure, he kept going on, and on, and on about becoming using the victims deaths as stepping stones for the survivors to achieve a hope strong enough to dispel any despair, which got annoying real quick. It was honestly hard to tell if he was telling the truth during his free time events, but I will admit that I felt sorry for him after hearing his past, like the death of his parents, his dog and him becoming terminally ill. And I had to respect him for keeping an eye on Teruteru to make sure he wouldn't harass the others.
But, I couldn't forgive him for pretty much starting the killing by planning to murder someone at Imposter Byakuya's party. If that never happened, I doubt anyone would've died. I especially hated how he treated everyone after learning they were the Remnants of Despair, he's the reason why Seiko, Ruruka and Izayoi got falsely expelled, thus ending their friendship and lastly, he's technically responsible getting Chiaki executed.
And god, his murder trial was as insane as he is, I had a feeling deep down that he did it all to himself, but it was still a complete shock especially when he left his luck to the person would throw the poisoned fire bomb, and that he planned to for everyone but the traitor to get executed, which failed.
I was very disturbed that he sawed his own hand off and attached Junko's to him.
And I dreaded the moment when he showed up in Ultra Despair Girls as the servant to the Warriors of Hope, it was hard to tell if he was actually trying to help Komaru, but it was all for his own gain in hopes of Komaru becoming the an Ultimate Hope just like her brother.
In the Despair Arc of the Danganronpa 3 anime, he was rather kind and chill like how he was in the prologue of 2, but I'm surprised that he blew up the gym so his class couldn't participate in the Annual practice exam, because of the deaths of Sato and Natsumi, surprised that he survived a plane crash and that he pulled a gun out on Junko.
His design is quite simple and similar to Makoto's, possibly as a nod to Nagito being a dark parallel to him. His green jacket with the red pixel pattern on the shoulder is very noticeable and it makes him easy to point out, along with his wavy white hair, which was originally brown and I assume it turned white once he got dementia.
His Ultimate Luck talent is quite different compared to Makoto's luck, as Nagito can tell when his luck is in effect and it helps/goes against him in the most craziest ways possible, like surviving a planet crash and a 1/6 chance of surviving Russian Roulette.
And that's all I really gotta say about Nagito and thus I give him a 5.5/10.
