Duncan watched him fall and reached his hand out uselessly. He hadn't meant to kill him. He was more curious than anything. He took out EnderBane to just touch it to his hand, to see if he had a reaction. Damn him and his curiosity.
He fell to his knees, tears falling down his cheeks.
"Rythian... Why? I just-I..... I never hated you.... It was the exact opposite. I loved you and I was jealous, of Zoey. I showed her everything so she would no longer be with you, and now look what I've gone and done. I-"
He stopped as he started choking up, his tears creating a small, glittering stream through the leaves.
He looked up as he felt a hand on his shoulder.
He turned to see a pale, ghostly Rythian, floating behind him, smiling.
He mouthed four words,
"Duncan, I forgive you"
Then blew away with the breeze.
