Burning Flame

Prologue

Smoke rose on the battlefield, making Inferno's fiery eyes seem a thousand times brighter in the burning haze.

Inferno was a bright crimson dragon with a sharp, cunning face, a pair of sweeping ivory horns, and strong muscles that gave him a regal appearance.

He growled orders to the dark gray hydra (large three-headed dragon) standing next to him and in reply the hydra roared at the dragon soldiers marching all around them.

Strange horse-like creatures approached from afar, with feathered wings and long muscular legs that propelled them towards their scaly foes. They were the pegasus, and, even though they seemed weak compared to the dragons, they had the strong gift of magic on their side.

The hydra glanced back at Inferno with eyes ablaze and a sly grin on his faces.

"We shall crush them, my King. For they are nothing but rats with high ambitions and fancy powers, and my regiment is just itching to shed some blood," he growled.

Inferno smiled wickedly, his teeth gleaming faintly in the cloud of smoke.

"Yes, I'm sure they are just itching for a fight. I wouldn't expect any different from your soldiers," he hesitated for a moment, his smile fading away into a conservative frown, " but we both know that they are more powerful than they seem. We cannot make assumptions until our battle is won."

The hydra named Siege nodded and looked back towards the ranks of pegasus soldiers. One of them seemed to be leading the rest, his head high and his features sleek and strong. Another pegasus traveled close behind. He still seemed to hold some authority but he was not anywhere near equal to the leader he trailed behind so carefully.

"Cyclone is an idiot. He's so vulnerable right now," Siege growled, nodding one of his heads towards the lead pegasus.

"But do you see anyone trying to attack him? He's very powerful, Siege, and everyone knows it."

Siege frowned.

"I could kill him, and so could you," he said.

"We need to be patient," Inferno hissed, "For now we will toy with him. Break him until he surrenders. Killing him would be too easy, and someone would just end up taking his place."

"Right now we destroy his armies. That's where you come in."

Siege grinned and flared his wings, buffeting some of the soldiers around him. Inferno's mouth twitched and he offered a sly smirk.

"Now let's get this over with."
