Serenity and Blaze talked for a long time that day, and they learned many interesting things about one another. Neither one of them thought to mention that their parents were rulers but that didn't seem to matter. They just talked and played and laughed together, not even caring about the outside world.
Before they knew it the sun was setting and both of them realized they had other responsibilities to attend to.
Serenity told Blaze that she had to leave, but she would meet him again tomorrow. He agreed to it and she left with a smile on her face.
After she was gone Blaze waited for his mother, knowing that she would be home soon.
When he heard the familiar wingbeats at the entrance he rushed forward to meet her.
"Mother!" he cried excitedly as he came forward and stretched up to nuzzle her muscular chest.
She smiled and reached down with her neck to nuzzle him.
"How was your day?" she asked.
"Good."
"What did you do all day?"
Blaze thought carefully about this and, for some reason that he couldn't explain, he decided not to tell her about Serenity.
But he did decide to ask her about his dream.
"I slept mostly, but I had a really strange dream at one point. It had a dragon in it. A female, I think."
She looked down at him curiously, her eyes bright and the frills on the side of her head fanned out slightly.
"What did she look like?" she asked.
"She had really bright red eyes and two heads," he replied, "and she had golden scales."
Immediately Magma tensed up and her lip curled into a snarl.
"Did she say anything to you?"
Her voice was urgent and it had a sharp tone that Blaze had never heard before.
"No," he whispered fearfully,
She relaxed a little but her jaw was still clenched and her tail whipped back and forth angrily.
"Who was she, mother?"
"Never you mind, Blaze. Just... don't worry about it. I'll handle it," she growled.
Now he was extremely confused.
Handle what? he wondered, It was only a dream!
"What's going on?" he asked.
"I said never mind!" she snarled, "I'll take care of it!"
He shrank away from her, his eyes wide and his body trembling.
"Ok," he whispered.
She nodded and turned away so suddenly that Blaze had to stumble back to keep from being trampled.
"I'll be back soon."
With that she shot out of the entrance and soared into the open air, releasing an angry shriek as she did so.
Blaze watched her until she disappeared into the distance. Then he just watched the horizon mindlessly, his thoughts numb with fear and shock.
One thought kept nagging at him, though, and this thought made him sick with a fear and guilt that he didn't understand.
What have I done?
The question seemed simple, but the answer remained unknown.
