Blaze kept his sights on the entrance to the cave, his eyes wide and alert.
He remembered his mother's words clearly in his head;
I'll be gone for a while, Blaze, but I'll return every night to check on you. Just remember to be cautious, my son. Don't make any foolish mistakes.
She'd told him that she had to return to her duties as Queen, but he still didn't like the idea of being alone. She had left the following morning after she'd returned from her hunting trip and so had his father. They both told him he was safe, but he didn't believe them. Something seemed to nag at his otherwise childish mind and so he kept his focus on the entrance with the caution and alertness of a dragon twice his age.
So much focus cost a price, though, and soon he was fast asleep and blissfully playing in his dreams.

Serenity trotted towards the cave with an anxious excitement that made her legs tremble and her heart flutter in her chest. Her parents had trusted her to be on her own! Or, at least, to be by herself for the day. She still wasn't sure how to feel about not being out in the open but she loved the idea of being alone for the day. She could think of new games and new ideas and... well, she'd get to that part later.
It had taken her only a little while to get to the cave and now the daunting entrance loomed above her like angry jaws. For the first time since she'd set out she felt some hesitation.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea...
But it too late now. Her curiosity got the best of her and she walked into the cave.

Blaze's dreams got stranger and stranger as his sleep wore on, and he couldn't make any sense of them whatsoever.
A gold dragon with two heads stood staring at him with her bright red eyes. Her faces were beautiful but her eyes held a certain sharpness and anger that made Blaze's blood run cold. Then the dream changed and he was looking at a sunrise with a strange horse-like creature by his side. A voice echoed in his mind, a booming, unfamiliar voice that gave Blaze a strange sense of comfort and inspiration.
"You're future depends on you, Blaze. Don't lose yourself now."
Then the dream was over.
He woke up to find wide amber eyes peering back down at him.
The same eyes of the creature in his dreams.
